coolrado: the fundamental difference is that we actually pay this copper to drive fast on public roads, it's his job. Rally drivers are not paid to drive on open public roads. Skill is not the issue.

i didnt say skill was the issue either but the police have used the flying pigs EXPERIENCE and SKILL as a reason to justify the speeds he was doing.

we DONT pay coppers to drive like idiots for no real reason and put OUR lives at risk, there is no real difference between driving at high speed on the road or a track except on a track the only persons life that is in danger is the driver

there are plenty of test tracks and even test centres set up like mock villages that could have been used for this at the least there should have been a police escort or other police drivers playing the part of other motorists or even a helicopter making sure the road ahead was clear, like they do on the wrc

if you ask me, i know no one did, but i reckon its just a perk of the job. Fair play to him.

If i'd been caught doin 120 on the motorway and they let me off, i'd hardly complain that they weren't doing there jobs.

If you think there is no justice here, then what about the family that lost there young lad who got run over by a drunk illegal imigrant with no license, tax, mot and insurance in wolverhampton not long back.

He got two months in jail, they lost there son. Shouldn't even of been in the country let alone driving on the roads.

Now where's the justice for you.

2p over....

There is absolutely NO WAY he was justified to drive at that speed on the public highway (even on motorway M42 / M6 where he was clocked by the vehicles own video recording) whilst quote, "getting used to his new traffic patrol vehicle".

Another good one I heard was the chief constable of the constabulary where the officer comes from saying "it's a double edged sword, if the public want us to be able to respond in an emergency where their livelihoods are at risk, they have to be prepared for the police to drive at this sort of speed".

Yeah right, how many times have we all heard about instances where it took the police ages, sometimes even hours or more etc. to repsond to a call where peoples property / businesses / relatives / friends etc. were being put at risk ?

I think that particular police officers actions were very reckless, dangerous and stupid, e.g at 160 mph it takes over a quarter of a mile to slow to zero by the most experienced of drivers. How does he think he would have been able to safely stop if there was a collision up ahead, debris on road, peolple crossing or roadworks etc. ?

This recent judgement only serves to reinforce the opinions of recent times that state that and also remind motorists / the general public that police officers always think they are "above the law".

Ok, rant over.

Cheers

I agree totally with BigTartanTimmeh there is no excuse or reason for the police to do 160, they have heilcopters for when a chase gets into stupid speeds and also when the general public is at risk. How would a member of the public be able to judge the a car coming behind them at that speed, you won't until it was too late, try justifying that when you have to tell their family members. They can't say anything to justify his actions, you have to remember the police are only human and this person has had the urge to push the car to see what it can do plain and simple training or not. Have you seen the raise of police involved motor accidents over the last years, it has gone up over a third!

Anyway my rant over.............
