Centre console bulbs

Hi,

 

Am taking out the centre console trims to derattle and also to put new bulbs in. I need to replace the bulbs in the cig lighter and the ash tray illumination but they seem to come complete with a plastic outer so I guess I'll need to order specially.

 

The question is- with the three rotary heater dials it seems to light more in the centre and then fades either side- is there a bulb for each dial or just one for them all. If there are three- whats bulbs do I need to order and how easy is it to get to the bulbs?

The cig bulb is a standard halfords job, the really small glass bead type. You just pull the plastic holder out of the cig lighter housing.

 

There's only 1 bulb to light all 3 dials but the outer ones always were a bit dim compared to the middle one. If they're really, really dim then the optics are probably cracked.

OK just been on to order from the stealers- The ashtray illumination is all one part number (so the bulb is hardwired into the outer). The Stealer is also saying that the ciggy one is the same type and to be fair it did look pretty integral when I looked last weekend. I have ordered a 'holder plus bulb' for both- I'll just have to see what turns up :?

Unless Storms are different (I doubt it) to a 94 VR, then the bulbs are replacable....but you can buy the intergral ones if you like.

 

I just pulled the connector off the cig lighter, put a green bulb in it, poked it through the centre console hole and it now illuminates the cubby hole at night....which was handy for when I smoked.

if you change the optics at the back for passat clear ones and put in a ultra bright green or red LED with a resistor where the standard bulb is usually inserted, it will light them all up alot better and costs hardly anything. Less than a £1
