Anyone owned an old 911?

Hi,

 

Not been on for a while as busy at work and they have restricted online forums! (yes the two are related! :D ). Have had to resort to autotrader to get my car fix at lunch time and saw this (2nd one up).

 

Just wondered if anyone has ever owned one and are they as costly as everyone says? Of course I'm not selling my rado!

One of my mates used to have an old 911 turbo - 1986 from memory. Spent loads on it but worth every penny for the driving thrill .. 8)

often thought of these and come to the conclusion every time that they must cost an awful lot to run every day.......ok if you can stump up the money for a later model but the older ones must cost a fortune to keep on the road....

I'd love to have an old 911 at some point... good for a weekend toy but you wouldn't want one for every day driving (not with the miles I do anyway)

I had come to the same conlusion, everyone I know says the cost is huge (but none of them have owned one), such a beautiful looking car though. The 1990 right hookers are still going for £15k :shock:

 

Never driven one, bet the turbo is awesome but even more costly to run than the non turbo

Yeah the 90s version looks more like the new 911 than the new 911 :roll:

friend also had an old y reg one, white with whale tail. He also had a modified mk1 gti and said the gti was quicker but the 911 went round corners flat like it was on rails.

I think the parts are fairly expensive for both. My mate's turbo was awesome. Handling is VERY different to most cars too. I would definitely combine buying one with a Porsche specialist driving course. Otherwise the car won't last long.

Sound advice. The only other rear wheel drive car I have driven is a 1500 Fiat x19!!!

 

I have heard that (with the exception of the newer 911s) they are a bit of a beast to drive so should I ever be in a position to get one would definately invest in some lessons.

I had a 3.0SC - they are a lovely motor but quite difficult to live with on a daily basis and not that quick (by todays standards) if I'm honest about it. A VR6 or G60 would easily keep up with it.

 

Do your homework before buying one - if you're looking for a good all rounder the C2 is the one to go for.
