AND7 F 0 Posted June 17, 2005 Hi - I have just bought a 94 2.0 16v in satin silver with a genuine 68000 on the clock - it's my first Corrado and I am after a bit of advice I'm sure I've read somewhere that the cambelt change is due at 70000 but I can't be sure - can somebody help me out please? Sanj 0 Posted June 24, 2005 Mmmm My service book says that the cambelt was done at 61k, I bought the car at 71k a few years back. Its now approaching 90k should i get it replaced or not. Just a bit worried that I'm gonna get ripped off getting it replaced, anyone now if I can do it myself or can give me a rough estimate on how much it'll cost? Due to the 16v double overhead cam and the chain drive involved, it really puts a strain on the cam belt, even relatively youthfull belts. The 16v weakness is that the engine crank's sprocket drive rips the teeth off the cam belt if there is any sign of weakness. Better to change it at 40,000 miles intervals and certainly no more than 50,000 miles intervals. Oh, and don't let me stand anywhere near your Corrado 16v when you are blipping the throttle with the clutch disengaged or in neutral (strain at it's worst for the belt). I've had 3 owner's 16v's go, right there and then in front of me. When checked, no teeth left on the cam belt at the engine crank belt drive area. Teeth sheared thro' and a flat belt both sides. AND7 F 0 Posted June 24, 2005 Sanj if you are in East London the place that did mine was JC Motors (LDM) 18 Arbitus st E8 4DT - 020 7249 9414 the belt was £19, tensioner £24 and with labour and vat came to £150 it's a VW specialist with a diagnostic computer and an old camper van inside which doubles as the office...
