NickVR6 0 Posted June 18, 2005 Nice one mate, can't beleive I missed the UR out! Good taste my friend, well only have to look at your car to confirm that..........
MoonlightVR 0 Posted June 18, 2005 Nah Nick, only having 5 was the problem! There's loads of cars to pick from! It's difficult leaving out cars like the AM Vanquish, and I love the wail of the Ferrari 360! Oh and the M3 CSL!
NickVR6 0 Posted June 18, 2005 Its sad I know, but i would have out the TVR350i too, allways loved that hollow sweet kinda V8 noise they make. Much prefer it to the new straight 6 ones that just sound rattley. MIGHTY quick though (When they are working!)
h100vw 0 Posted June 18, 2005 This is a daft one and I expect to get some stick. Around the corner from me is an MG ZT 260. Not sure if it has std exhausts but it sounds absolutely ace.. Also, I work at Manchester airport which is just up the road from Wilmslow where most of Man Utd seem to live. Anyway, there are always some wicked German and Italian cars floating about when I go home... To put them in order would be pretty hard. Gavin
NickVR6 0 Posted June 18, 2005 Your safe, we are only talking sound and I dont doubt the 260 sounds sweet! Hav'nt even seen one on the road though.
Jim 2 Posted June 18, 2005 Tough call.. so many nice engine noises.. but going on the ones i've actually seen and heard in the flesh (and in no particular order): * Mercedes McLaren SLR * BMW M3 * Porsche 911 Turbo * Aston Martin V12 Vanqish (absolutely phenominal noise off that V12!) * Corrado VR6 with cone filter.. truely a superb noise ;)
Guest Posted June 18, 2005 Not in any particular order: Mercedes McLaren SLR Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Any F1 car with a Cosworth DFV Any TVR with the 5 litre Rover V8 engine Porsche 993 with sports exhaust
NickVR6 0 Posted June 18, 2005 Nice to see we all have some cultured taste and veried car knowledge is'nt it.
g60_Pete 0 Posted June 19, 2005 Porsche 911 turbo Fiat Coupe 20v turbo (with induction kit!) BMW M5 (much tastier sound that the puny m3!) Aston Martin Vanquish tvr in general :D (im not forgetting the vr either!) the fiat seems a bit misplaced but the 5cyl with an induction roar sounds absolutely awesome! not too slow either! dinkus 10 Posted June 19, 2005 I must say that the McLaren SLR does sound rather awesome, but having only experienced it on Top Gear, I can't really say about in real life. Next up has to be a GT40. Those things sound fantastic, but then I am somewhat of a sucker for the sound of a big American V8. On a similar route... the Rover V8s in TVRs sound fabulous too. The VR just as it starts swinging past 3k rpm under hard acceleration is pretty melty Lastly, but by no means least is a strange one. A Mk1 Ford Lotus Cortina. I was watching some classic car racing at Brands the other week and those things make a huge noise... and they're so tiny!!
coullstar 0 Posted June 19, 2005 Ur Quattro Ferrari 250LM TVR Cerbera V8 Metro 6R4 AM Vanquish (old style supercharged version)
andycowuk 0 Posted June 19, 2005 for any of you undercultured people, the new audi a8 quattro advert starts with the ur and the sport rally cars from 20 years ago....... watch out for it!
PhatVR6 0 Posted June 19, 2005 can't believe no one has mentioned the R32 yet. mine sound like a 360CS!
gordy 0 Posted June 19, 2005 best ever sounding car has to be dahlbacks short wheeled based audi quattro (the clip when it pulls out of the carpark).. those who have seen it know what iam on about
Ice White Socks 0 Posted June 19, 2005 The 350z actually sounds pretty special as well. has the same note as the VR but actually it comes more from the exhaust. I like them a lot

GIXXERUK 0 Posted June 20, 2005 AC cobra is awesome !
Henny 0 Posted June 20, 2005 GIXXERUK, I was just about to write that... 427CuIn AC Cobra (yup, that's 7 litres!) Jenson Interceptor (if you can get one to run long enough!) 911 turbo (has to be an air-cooled one though) Austin Healey 3000 (pref. works prepared) Triumph TR4 (sounds the nuts, honestly!) Ford RS200 (completely nuts car with an amazing sound) As I work just up the road from Gav (and next door to MUFC's ground) and drive through Wilmslow every day, I see a lot of exotic italian and German cars around too, so I've only listed cars I've been out in... 8)
Jim 2 Posted June 20, 2005 My neighbours 2.8i Turbo Capri makes a rather satisfying noise as well actually.. though can also agree with Ice White Socks as the guy also owns a totally mint 350Z and it sounds spectacular.
dinkus 10 Posted June 20, 2005 Nice list Henny, I should have put the Dax Tojeiro demonstrator in there too. It's a Cobra replica with a 502 in it. It sounds like god.
biggerbigneil 0 Posted June 20, 2005 Definitely the AC Cobra with the 427 engine - I did a Project on AC Cars @ Weybridge and a custom made one was being prepared for an American (none of those UK sound restrictions) you could feel the factory rumbling! Only project I ever got an A in! Then it's Guy's R32 After that it's a tie between my friends Dad's TVR Griffith 500 and my VR6 with Milltek and K&N pannel filter! Oooh not leaving out the beast of an Aston Vantage - 1990's I'm sure Ben's will be in there after I've heard it properly running! My Dad's 330 sounds pretty sweet also - Don't think the new M3 sounds that meaty Just remembered hearing a E Type and a Mustang driving past us last weekend towards Goodwood - They sounded very nice!
