Not yet, but that'll add to the fun when I get around to fitting one! OK with 8psi, but 14 will be nuts :shock:

What brakes are you running Dave?

 

Currently I'm just using the handbrake as the pedal just goes to the floor :lol: :shock: :shock:

 

Sorry, bit pi$$ed off at the mo.... I think my brake compensator valve has sprung a leak (not my new pipework as first suspected), fluid everywhere, happend on Sunday 200yards from BVF gate in Malvern.

 

At the minute, 280mm Brembo grooved with ds2200 pads. Not great, looking at 288's late vr etc or S2 calipers on the 280's.

 

May seem small, but I really don't want to change wheels. Car looks so standard, and I like it that way.

You and me both, but I consider adding well over 100hp to the cat's output and not uprating the brakes accordingly to be borderline irresponsible :lol:

 

Get some 16" Speedline 2110s on there, they're about as OE as you're going to get! Available in 16 and 17" sizes, 5 x100, ET35, 42mm caliper clearance, which is enough for midframe 4 pots.

Well i have just bought some 288's for mine as at the mo im running standard 280's with Black Diamond discs and greenstuff pads which for na power are a big improvement over standard, but if im going to be adding another 100bhp i AM going to need better stopping power, but like you wheels are an issue as im sorry to say it im not a fan of 17's on a corrado, i have a set of 9x16's but they barely fit over 280's so at the min im running my speedlines. So gone for 288's then probably going to go for the black diamond discs again and maybe red stuff pads this time unless they are not neccesary, as wel as goodridge hoses and a bloody good bleed :lol:

The 288s are miles better than 280s and I found Pagid Fast road pads with VW discs to work very well. Some grippier pads like the DS2500 or Red stuffs might give a little extra, but don't bother with grooves and drillings, totally not worth it on that size of disc.

 

Remember, grooves increase pad wear and holes reduce effective friction area. Both have their place on much larger discs for track days etc, but on the road a plain disc is best, imo. Unfortunately AP racing don't do plain discs for my car otherwise I'd use them.

 

312s give a bit more and fit under 16s, but you're talking about 12Kg a corner in unsprung weight though.

 

It's all matter of compromising. Stick with 15s/16s and 288s and drive slower, or fit 330s and 17s and drive as fast as you like :lol: Well, it's not quite that simple but good brakes give you a little more freedom to play, but you still need to be very vigilant when your addiction to boost takes over your common sense down country roads...... just keep an eye out for tractors, cyclists and 30mph old farts out for a picnic. In these situations, strong brakes will be your friend :-)

Cheers kev, might save myself a bit of money then and stick with standard discs, dunno what the condition is of the ones im getting though so i might end up changing them anyway. Pagid no longer do the Fast Road pads do they? I may just go for Red stuffs or look at the DS2500's.

 

Tbh though i like my speed but i am a bit of a fart when it comes to braking, i dont leave braking to the last minute and when coming up quick on cars again i leave time to brake, but i guess when i am charged i will be arriving at cars arses a fair bit quicker :lol: My main concern is like you say anything pulling out or overtaking on bends like the other day :roll: and know i have some pretty competant brakes to stop me. Plus with the 288's i have the calipers there for if i ever decide to go 312's.

 

Like i was telling you Kev, i think im going to replace my front 9" brocks for the 7.5" which allow for the 288's AND will be a damn sight nicer to drive on compared to the 9's! Or i may just sell them altogether and get some 7.5 x 16's all round which have enough clearance for future 312 upgrade! Decisions decisions!! :lol:

Its so frustrating that brakes dictate the wheels so much, Ive been through this dilemma.

In an ideal world i'd have huge discs,6pot brakes under real deep dish 16's :lol: . :lol: . But because of the Brembos, couldnt have the car as low as i wanted, or the wheels cos of having to have 17s, 323 discs etc. :lol:

 

But safe fun is better than looking good crashing imo.

Yeah you're right, pagid don't do the Fast road anymore..... I think they're just called "Sports" now.

 

Some of these pagid race compounds are available for OE calipers and they're great as daily pads too, even from cold.

Just sell your 9s mate and go with the 7x16 Speedlines :lol: You'll get 312s behind those no worries. It'll drive and steer better too ;-)

What insurance company are all you VR6 blown boys using??

My current insurance company arent impressed by my bhp doubling :lol: , so who's insuring you????

Point taken on the brakes Kev, I reckon mine don't seem that bad because I'm down on power at the mo (maybe 250ish, if that is considered down). So although I have to be careful the brakes work well for my driving. I'm sure when I feel the full 8psi potential it'll make the decision for me.

 

16" sounds like a good compromise to me, and speedlines are a very good Corrado standard looking wheel.

 

I've just picked up a new brake compensator valve to fit this weekend along with complete new pipework. Not taking any more chances with brakes after recent findings, bursting solid lines etc etc. Compensator is seized and leaking after I disturbed it to fit Goodrich hoses last week. Just so glad I found it when I did, the brake lines really looked in very good condition in all the places you can see them, but obviously not up to even a standard car.

do insurance companies actually ask you for proof that you have added, so so amount of bhp to your car?

 

i.e. a specialist company that fitted the supercharger kit? (installation certificate etc...)

Mine have for the last 4 years, they like to know if the work was carried out professionally or by yourself.

Plus they need a rough idea of the power to estimate the likliness of you crashing it i guess.

I told them my BHP was going to double....they said they'd call me back LOL

Unless the ins company pay for a dyno run (at their expense), I don't see how they can ask for proof of power!

You may have a chuffing great turbo, but what if you have a 2psi wastegate spring? :lol:

 

It's usually on the agreed value policies they ask for receipts etc, but a 'normal' policy they just want the basics so that you're 'covered' should you stack it, but obviously you won't get any of the value of the mods back......or any of the mods or the salvage with some policies.

 

If you're running 14psi, that's 400hp territory mate! You could try 10psi (about 330-350hp) and quote 300 to the ins company and see how you like that. You can always whack the boost up later, but don't tell them the power is doubling, they won't touch you with a long smelly pole!

Right i have now paid for my supercharger from coxylad and am going to be ordering the brackets and pullies etc from R-Tech on monday/tuesday, so its gradually getting closer for me!!

 

Only thing now is injectors, if im going for an 80mm pulley on the rotrex charge which i have been told will give about 0.5 bar so around 7-8psi?? Will i definately need to upgrade my injectors to red tops?

 

I have been looking on american ebay and they seem pretty cheap (around $200 new) for som red tops that the mustangs use, but just not sure if they are the right ones or not! THESE are the ones i found.

 

Also when i ran Storm Developments to discuss what else i needed for the charger before i knew about R-Tech the guy there told me that some guys run black top injectors from saabs or something and they can be got hold of pretty cheap. Does anyone else know much about these?

Phoned Brentacre and Adrian Flux, Fairly happy with the quotes, declared the extra (cough) 120 bhp, which will cost me an additional £150.00. other mods declared also.

Flux were actually £110.00 cheaper than Brentacre.

Mine's with Flux too Marcus and probably will remain so when the Rotrex goes on, think they wanted to tap me up for another £120 when i enquired but i've got all the other Mods declared already. Have heard they can be slow to pay out god forbid the worst should ever happen, but i wrote out a detailed schedule of all my Mods with costs / dates etc and faxed it back along with their std declaration form (kept the fax receipt). Hopefully stops them being able to wriggle out of anything later!

i have been with brentacre for years, and when i put the charger on i declared it as stage1 260bhpish, but on there modified car policy it covers all mods like wheels/suspension/exhausts, plus engine mods upto 220bhp at the wheels, so 260bhp at the flywheel is under the 220bhp at the wheels :) so it cost me nothing extra in insurance. just havent told them about going to stage2 :)

my insurance cost me £345 fully comp, protected no claims, and all the other stuff 8)

Im very happy :D to get my car back after a lot of hard work by Vince, map not perfect but great power 329.9+ @ 6271rpm , was still climing vince said its about 335 & 276.8lbft. Its was a nice drive home :lol:

 

Going to chat again to vince tomorrow, looks like going to DTA. will try get some pics up tomorrow.

 

Cheers to Nickvr6 for letting me crash last nite, great bloke. :)
