Roadie 0 Posted July 28, 2003 I'm spending alot of money on my G60 now so I thought I'd upgrade to a Clifford 300... Cost me about £400 fitted. All installed, was well chuffed with it, automatic windows etc etc... But.... Has anyone had problems with your Clifford alarm?? As mine now intermittently does not close the windows, alarm goes off 30 secs after setting it or beeps 4 times for god knows what reason and sometimes a delay of 5-7 secs before ignition lights power up. This happening the odd time is fine, but it seems to be every other day one or all faults happen. Have been back 3 times now and had 2x new sensors fitted and yes it always works fine when in the garage that installed it. I thought that Clifford was the 'Dogs Boxxxxks' in alarms. Me, I'm not that impressed. Is this just me or has anybody else had probs with them. One other thing, when getting a new alarm fitted ALWAYS get them to do a bulb check before installing, cos getting your car back installed with two bulbs gone and them then saying oh yea can you sign this.... another annoying thing. Rpmayne 0 Posted July 28, 2003 I've had Clifford alarms in the past a have never had a problem. The 4 beeps could be a code telling you a sensor has been triggered / is faulty. You should be able to look that up in the instruction manual. The two bulb thing... do you mean they blew two of them up, but after you've accepted by signing they wave any responsibility? If they're blowing things up when installing the alarm I wouldn't necessarily blame Clifford for the problems. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted July 28, 2003 The rolling up of windows on the Corrado is done by the Corrado central locking - NOT the Clifford. Scott 0 Posted July 28, 2003 I been told this before - its not the alarm that is the problem - its electronic and rarely goes wrong - sensors do fail but I have been told by a friend who installs alarms / hi fi for a living that reliability all comes down to how the alarm system has been fitted..... He has seen taped up wires.... alarm boxes loose and banging about - you name it! As it goes I rate Clifford as one of the best systems out there... am aiming to upgrade mine to Clifford once have the pennies as my old C used to have it and never caused me any problems. I have a CODE system at the mo that is CAT 1 - but no remote locking, window closure, etc is not cool :lol: Kev is right - problems with window roll up / sunroof closure is down to the usual VW gremlins - not the alarm.... try shutting the windows / roof with the key... Rams 0 Posted August 8, 2003 The beeps after arming your car is tolet you know something isnt shut, could just be the sensor needs screwing up a few threads to make the contact engage. I would say that clifford alarms are like Yoko tyres, over rated. They are good, like yoko tyres but there are better products on the market in my opinion. I have loads of mates that have had nothing but problesm, reliability is a problem with cliffords from past experiences. I friend had a evo 6 with the clifford concept 600 or something with intelly start, turbo timer and it only started up on the button command 6 times out of 10. When it works, the alarm is GR8. but not what I'd expect from a £400 alarm! Has ne1 used a Toad alarm as they are supposed to be just as good as Clifford if not better. Rams 0 Posted August 8, 2003 Todd alarms are good, I havent heard of problems with them yet. Ok, I will put you off cliffords now. My friends escort cozzie, magazine featured the works, his alram unit caught fire and melted all his electrics!! Nice alarm. Ok, that is an exception, but my x girlfriend had her alarm fitted by GAP Security, concept 300 with lights on feature and she asked for it to be wired up to her central locking as she wanted them to fit the central locking system to covert it from a non central locking to remote central locking. The charged her for the bits and came and fitted her alarm and it was fine but never fitted the central locking pumps. Then she called them as said the alarm was playing up, her alarm would go off for no reason at 3 in the morning and wake her neighbours up - she lived in a posh area - then her car wouldnt start and the AA came out to her 3 times all to say to her was it was the alarm immobilizer playing up and she was stuck and had to leave her car in the car park as gap would come down till the next day. Her car was stolen that night and found not far without her rims that I bought her for her birthday that were a few days old and the silly women left the locking wheel nutkey in the car after I told her to keep it in her handbag or somewhere safe. So Clifford dont do it for me. Gap was a waist of time and we had the alarm taken out, claimed the insurance and was scared ever since. Her car was found on its discs and trying to jack it up was task in itself. The car would just swing round and trying to not damage anything further was just a nighmare. I bought her a nother set of second hand wheels the same as her old ones and she never put them back on incase her car was broken into again. It was a mk2 Golf, nice, silver, I lowered it for her 40 mm and she loved it as I had a golf too at the time. Sorry about the long e mail on this subject but I would recommend having a look around and investigating just what is on the market. Last point, if you add intelly start to your alarm it doesnt become cat 1, so adding these options gives you fancy options but why do you think they reduce the catagory with these on? G60Jet 1 Posted August 8, 2003 Ramms I've heard so many stories like that, happening to loads of different alarms. i bet the alarm going off was no faulty alarm, and the fact the car wouldn't start i bet was also down to someone playing around. Rams 0 Posted August 11, 2003 G60Jet, mate, she alarm packed up and she informed GAP after the AA came out and said it was the alarm / immobilizer so she had to have it disconnected and then her car was nicked. Obviously after gap took 3 days to get to her because they were aparantley too busy! Then her car was nicked - bloody bad timing. I think paticulary Gap are bad fitters and cliffords are not as reliable as they should be. This case turned out to be a nicked MK2 Golf GTi that my girlfriend at the time loved. She would spend hours cleaning her wheels and cleaning the car which was great when I wanted to do bits to mine and it was found on its discs. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
