Stan 24v 0 Posted July 30, 2003 My car isnt well :-(( Its happened on a couple of occasions before and now quite a lot this evening. the problem is when I put my foot down at about 2000-2500 revs the car loses power. If I take my foot off the gas, it then drives ok. Also if I rev up slowly it seems to be ok. On some of the other occasions though, the car lost power in all gears, and I had to pull over and leave it out of gear for a mo, then put it back in to first and it goes fine again. Through all of this, the car doesnt cut out at all, just has no power to the accelerator. I thought it may be the fuel filter, which it still may be, so I filled the car, as to stop it picking all the crap up from the bottom of the tank, but its now got even worse. When I got home tonight it started really hubting and blowing(missing) and then after a min or two cut out. When I restarted it, it seemed fine, although I didnt drive it again. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? And maybe somewhere I could take it to be looked at? I live in Norwich, and I dont really wanna take it to the stealers. Any input would be much appreciated Cheers Stan 93 Poorly VR6 :( :x   :?: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stan Bates 93 Corrado VR6
Joe M 0 Posted July 30, 2003 Could still be the fuel filter, doesnt matter how much petrol is in the tank, it could already be clogged. Im no expert but its a simple thing to change so could be worth doing if no one else comes up with a better idea.
G60 0 Posted July 30, 2003 ya, try fuel filter first for sure. cheap and easy to replace.
macca 0 Posted July 30, 2003 Could try a injection specialist, might be able to measure your fuel out put from the pump. Only guessing though :?
Corrado31 0 Posted July 31, 2003 My old 92 VR6 had exactly the same problem. VW replaced two fuel filters, which developed holes, but it turned out to be the ECU. I had the car chipped (a piggyback chip) and when they unplugged it to run tests on my ECU, that almost solved the problem by itself. They also reset the ECU to orginal spec and I returned the chip for a refund. It was 99% better after that, the 1% being a slightly unsteady idle. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 31, 2003 I doubt very much it's the fuel filter. Something major has gone wrong to cause the symptopms he described. Could be anything, best to get it hooked up to the diagnostics. My guess is either an O2 sensor, MAF sensor or engine speed sensor. Kev
G60 0 Posted July 31, 2003 ya something nasty is happening.. but fuel filters get neglected as they are not specified as a regular service item. its always a good thing to cross off the list of potential problems if it hasn't been done recently. CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted July 31, 2003 Ive had that same problem ...and it turned out to be corroded connection on the fuel pump ,replaced it and its been fine since :D Another mate with s VR6 had same problem and it turned out to be pump :( Get the Fuel pressure checked out..its easy and could solve your problem I agree with kevhaywire that the fuel filter is not at fault. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 2, 2003 Taking Jame's suggestion a little further, it's best to get the pump pressure checked on the rolling road as they usually always give 4bar at idle, even if dying. If the flow pressure drops as the injectors open up more at high revs, the pump is heading for the grave. A new pump is roughly £90 from a dealer, so they're not mega expensive....especially considering it's a lift pump, main pump and acummulator all in one unit.
