G60 serpentine belt tensioner (trick to getting it back on)

Recommended Posts

Probably been posted but it's a helpful trick. I had the tensioner spring/shock off the stud to change the serpentine belt and couldn't compress it enough to get it back on.

I finally used a caulking gun (for dispensing caulk from a tube). One end fits nicely over the bottom of the shock and with each click on the trigger the shaft compressed the spring sufficiently to get it back on the stud easily.

Great trick!

DAMN could have done with that little trick 3 weeks ago, ended up getting the tensioner back on but snapped half the thread in the process and had to replace that. Sounds like it could work better then the jubilee trick.

Nice one!

Caulking gun done the trick for me on my G60 alternator change, the double spanner trick could cause damage , would recommend
