Problem with headlights

Recommended Posts

I've got a problem with my headlights. They both work on sidelights and headlights but the passenger side doesn't work on full beam. When I pull the stick back for full beam, the drivers side works but the passenger side dims to the brightness of sidelights. When I release the stick the lights go back to normal. The blue light on the dash doesn't illuminate either.

I've removed each light and swapped them round and the passenger side light works perfectly on the drivers side (on side lights, headlights and full beam) but not on the passenger side. I conclude from this that the bulbs are all ok. Is there anything else I can check such as the earth?

Any ideas guys? thanks :)

Headlight loom or not?

Check fuses as a first step in both the loom and the fuse/relay panel.

Check relays in the headlight loom if one is fitted.

id be unplugging both headlights, and using a 12v tester in the plug on each pin.

un plug the dim/dip coil (in front of battery/yellow thing)

test with side lights to find which pin they are,and test for low beam at each side and then high beam.

worth checking the fuses as said.

dodgy bulbs can sometimes cause this problem if the filament inside the bulb is broken and earthing.

sounds like the bulbs are ok though.

neil.

The ballast resistor is clipped to the ABS pump on VRs.

Or unplug the single yellow wire in the headlight loom under the dash at the back of the fuse box.
