What is this called?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

What is the bit called where the water hose goes into the engine on my valver (on the right hand side, next to the temperature sender) called? The hose is in good condition and i'm losing a lot of water from this area. Is it some sort of gasket?

Also, would i be best getting this part from the dealership?

Cheers in advance!

I think on ETKA it's called 'outlet' or something equally vague (as per usual) like 'part'.

I usually hear them referred to as elbows.

Flange, what a word I can't use that word in serious conversation around my g/f as she just wets herself

Sounds like you need to replace the O ring...

Thought this sounded familar so checked an old invoice and this part is indeed known as a "coolant flange"

I could say something here about females, servicing and coolant flanged but I'll just leave it...

Yes, should be fairly easy on a 16V, as there isn't that much tubing in the way unlike with a G60

Changed the coolant flange on my DX and PG-engines, definitely preferred doing the DX

Good time to then also flush the entire cooling circuit and refill with fresh G12+ mixture :-)

id assume its the

17953G WATER FLANGE ON HEAD-SIDE CO 16V 4/89 > 5.75 Add

but you might want to give them a ring, give them the part number and let them tell you which one is right!

17953G WATER FLANGE ON HEAD-SIDE CO 16V 4/89 > 5.75 Add

My guess would be that one.

Go into GSF and they'll show you it on their screen.

I don't live near a GSF so i'll prob just go to my local VW garage and get someone from the parts dept to tell me.

Cheers
