Anyone know what the officlal stance on the corrado is?

Is is a classic as yet?

Well for insurance purposes it is anything over 15 years old I think, so some are....

most insurers classify cars as 'classic' when they're over 15 years old, which some early corrados should be knocking on the doors of now, ultimatly though its down to the insurance company as they all have different guidelines. you might also find they want to limit your milage on a 'classic' policy.

I always thought that a car had to be more that 25 years old to be officially a classic ?

yup 15 years old for insurance purposes as I had an old escort (cough) convertible on a classic policy then swapped it for the C, although it was just under 15 years old they let me have it on the policy anyway......which was nice of them.

and if i remember rightly it was limited to 5000 a year, you had to be over 25 years old and it was just over 200 quid for a 16v but they said that it didnt matter which model of Corrado it was

depends why stingman123 was asking really, in terms of tax, no, in terms of insurance... possibly, if you have a very early example and in terms of how they're reguarded by owners and fans... most deffinatly.

The rolling exemption of tax at the 25 year old point was stopped a while ago. The newest car that is tax free must have been built in 1972 - I say built and not registered as you can prove this with a build date.

 

It is nice going to the post office and not handing any money over though.

 

Some classic policies dont have unlimited mileage but do insist on garaging overnight instead.

 

My Triumph GT6 mk III was built in 1972, and is a group 18 classic car - I pay a massive £125 fully comp inc Europe and breakdown for unlimited mileage on it. Which is nice!

yes my policy did say that, although it did have 17" wheels and a stainless exhaust which to be honest nothing was said when they wrote the car off:(

My US-G60 Rado is on classic car with HIC (15 years old), paying a rather hefty 500 quid though, fully comp., incl. agreed value, but that's in Coventry :roll:

 

It does have a few mods, but that doesn't cause too much headaches with HIC, as both my Roccos are on classic car with HIC, too, both are quite modded, especially the Mk1 :lol:

Most classic car insurers are about as worried about mods as normal insurers.

 

Again my GT6 has a wide selection of non-factory bits, some because it makes it easy to run and more reliable; others because you can't get OE anymore.

 

As long as you declare them then they are not too worried.

 

Tempest as well as Coventry the reason your car is way up there to insure is because insurers hate imports with a passion.

Got mine insured as a classic with lancaster and its on a K plate (well it was until I put poncy personal plates on it!

 

Unfortunately the governmnet withdrew the "Tax exempt" status a few years ago back in 1997 and decided to cap it at 1972.

 

So if you have a car older than a 71 then youve got free tax for life, after then I'm afraid you get clobbered lik the rest of us! I remebered loads of mates with aircooled bugs, campers etc all eagerly rubbing their hands waiting for their cars 25th bday only to find out they had been p155ed on by the government! While I sat with a smug grin on my face behind the wheel of my tax exepmt 69 Cal look bug!

Nope doesnt have to be a second car, my wife insures our galaxy and I had the C insured in my name but with our lass on the policy

That wouldn't explain the still rather high fee of 300 or quid on my Mk2 Storm Rocco, Right-hooker that it is. It is probably just scummy Coventry :roll:

I could be on to a winner here, tax free '72 Bay, and a forth coming Corrado classic policy.....nice! Tax free is good, only time I've ever 'bought' a full years car tax.
