2_Door_fun 0 Posted May 11, 2006 Hay Riley was it hard to locate the headunit where the ashtray is or was on yr car? I thought about that. The gauges look good. I think its such a dramatic change that it will take the eye a while to get use to it. I have 2 gauges in the ashtray.
Riley 0 Posted May 11, 2006 it was a bit of messing i must admit  especially using only a jigsaw with a wood cutting blade in it! ! i actually tried fitting the panel up yesterday and ended up putting the original back :( feckin stereo was hitting the screw in points behind it...so ive sacked it off for now. i just put the heater panel i made into the car without the gauges etc. neil. :)
saysomestuff 0 Posted May 11, 2006 mate, finish it in plastic, it will look awesome. get some acetone, some black abs shavings - mix them together and cast the faceplate into the centre console, sand down and voila! OEM
Chris VR6nos 0 Posted May 11, 2006 I have an Apexi boost gauge but the thing is that it shows in Bar and goes to 1.5bar so you are giessing as to what the psi is and it doesn't go round very far so not as much use as it might be. What would be a good gauge, or should i say, what's your fav gauge you've seem? Chris

Jap Greedy gauges are well tidy. Not sure if they would suit the VW's we all have. The full sweep VDO gauges are prob the best reallty. Very simple. NickVR6 0 Posted December 8, 2006 right, ive given up with cutting centre consules to peices!! Stereos going in the glove box, got a really nice angled 3 gauge din plate from venum to go in the original stereo hole. Got some nice digital gauges from ebay (thegaugeplace). 3 coloured sweep round the edge and blue led digital readout in the centre. i have sat here egr, air fuel and boost all matching :-) Aquamist gauge is going in the air vent. All look much more subtle than they sound, will post picks tommorrow when i fire them up.
NickVR6 0 Posted December 8, 2006 i really dont like that centre consule, its that horrid cheap britle cack plastic thats caused me some serious swearing and money! Thanks to MisVW i have a replacement centre consule and i will be leaving it well alone!
Edition 1 0 Posted December 8, 2006 how much hassle will it be to fit guages where the ashtray is, i`m looking to do this soon but cant be arsed to move my stereo If anyones interested , I've started a prototype pod to go where the ashtray is which will take two 52mm gauges and will require no mods to the console
Lippy 0 Posted December 8, 2006 nick your spread of gauges will look good - keep us posted i've got the venom pod, its OK - but I have problems with it popping outta my centre console on uneven surfaces. Mind you I couldnt be arsed screwing the top screw into the console above the vents, so there is probably more play which is causing it.
