JMC 0 Posted July 18, 2010 Thanks Phil :D - the backs need to come out slightly though. They're sitting too far in at the moment.
Philuk 0 Posted July 18, 2010 cool. bet they will look mint spaced a lil bit, what happening with the mo's?

JMC 0 Posted July 18, 2010 cool. bet they will look mint spaced a lil bit, what happening with the mo's? Keeping them for the moment, until I make my mind up about the Ultraleggeras, or might just keep them as winter wheels. These definately need a bit of spacing, especially on the back. Slimg60 0 Posted July 18, 2010 They look good. Cant believe how much lighter they are than MO's. I need to look into lighter wheels as Borb A's weigh a ton.
wy906 0 Posted July 18, 2010 Very 8) ! And the Porsche brakes!
JMC 0 Posted July 18, 2010 Amazed at the difference... Oz Ultraleggera 7x17 16lb each Compomotive MO 7.5x16 21.8lb each Then there's the tyre difference of course - I am assuming a 205/45 R16 tyre weighs more a 205/40 R17 as there's less sidewall, so the difference may even be a bit more. kerrly 0 Posted July 19, 2010 Liking the new OZs!! You have good taste, the MOs are dam cool to. Questions though, since you had 16s on before with a 50mm drop have you had to adjust the ride height to allow for the 17s? and how do you find a 50mm drop on a day to day basis? Also you say the steering feels sharper due to the OZs being lighter but has putting 17s had much affect on other driving charactoristics. cheers Dave

No, no ride height adjustment at all. The tyres on 16" were 45 profile, on the 17's they're 40 profile. Rolling circumference is pretty much the same (less than 1% difference) so the speedo is fine. 50mm is not a problem, about 99% of the time. I have to be slow over speed bumps and level crossings, but apart from that, not an issue. Actually the only other thing I can think of is poor visibility - I tend to be looking at most peoples number plates  No ther big chnage with the Oz's. Hasn't made it harsher (but I am running KW v1's already). I am getting some spacers though, as there is very little room between the wheels and coilies at the back. Hope that helps. kerrly 0 Posted July 19, 2010 cheers for that. Im currently in limbo as to which wheel/suspension set up to go for and you seem to have achieved the kind of stance id like where its not overly low. Will be interesting to see what the spacers and 8J are like on the rear should be pretty spot on imo. dave
pete_griff 0 Posted July 20, 2010 very nice - i've always been a massive fan of ultralegras and they suit your car nicely 8)
JMC 0 Posted July 20, 2010 Yep, I am a fan and am happy with how they look. I did however lose a centre cap today :censored: . Been a while since that has happened, so I think the silicone sealant will be come out for the remainder of them. Anybody know where I can get cheap centre caps
Philuk 0 Posted July 22, 2010 what size cap and what did it look like? think we got one here somewhere if its right size!
JMC 0 Posted July 22, 2010 what size cap and what did it look like? think we got one here somewhere if its right size! Here you go Phil - it's 55mm, carbon fibre effect with M582 written on the back. If you have got one that would be great - cheapest I've found so far was £15 plus postage
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 22, 2010 Prefer the MOs tbh, but I fully support your move to a lightweight wheel. It makes such a big difference :D Amazed at the difference... The new 7x16 MO 1670 flat spoke weighs 8.4Kg, so a hefty 1.5Kg saving on your 7.5x16 MOs. Tyres do indeed make a difference. A light tyre like the Contisport 3 further reduces unsprung weight. A 205/40/17 CS3 weighs 7.5Kg. A Bridgestone RE050A in the same size is over 8Kg, but it depends on the load ratings etc etc. I never weighed any of my 205/45/16 tyres, but interestingly, a budget 205/50/15 pulled off one of my speedlines was nearly 9kg!! With a decent combo like your OZs or a ProRace 1 with Contis, you're saving a fair bit of weight over the OE 15" wheel / tyre combo :D
JMC 0 Posted July 22, 2010 Interesting Kev - tyre make hadn't even crossed my mind. I've got KU31's on there at the moment and I must say am pretty impressed with them, especially given their cost. One thing I have noticed with these Oz's - makes my standard rear brakes look like bottle tops  Good to see the new MO's are lighter. I really like mine, but they are heavy as hell, and in 16" I have less tyre choice.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 22, 2010 Yeah I've tried a few tyres and the Contis just stood out as feeling really light! :D I've got the KU31s on at the moment too and they're defo heavier, but that's me just being anal, LOL!. They are indeed grippy tyres and the sidewalls strike the right balance between cornering stifness and ride comfort, imo. It's an amazing tyre for the money! Yeah I'm kind of drawn to the 8x17 MO flat spoke at the moment. Always loved the old school style of that wheel and MOs are tough as tanks too. A little podgy at 9.4Kg, but for an 8x17, that's still 1Kg under average, so not bad.

The KU31's were £56 each fitted  through Blackcircles, which I thought was really good.

JMC 0 Posted August 22, 2010 Started modifying a dash centre consol for my nitrous gauge/controller today :D Bit of a squeeze in there, and not sure what to do with the current gauges I have (maybe move them lower and angle them up slightly). At the rate, it'll take me another couple of years to get everything else for the nitrous fitted, god I hate being lazy at times  Going to have to think of a new palce for the CD's as well :?
