Clio 182 - hit me with your thoughts

Out of all the cars that have been mentioned, defo the Audi S2 coupe. U mentioned e46 M3 but what about the e36 M3 ? Awesome cars, but go for the 286 bhp model.

 

German, stylish, great handling and quick as fcuk, nothing more to be said really.

 

I work for a car rental company and we have no end of faults with the Renaults (Clio's, Megane's and Laguna's) on our fleet, electrics ALL the time, poor handling and crappy build quality (plastic wings on Megane's and Clio's...).

All modern cars are common, they wouldn't be made if they didn't sell.

 

The ability to make choices based on personal preferences is what seperates humans from droids....is that an Isaac Asimov line, or something I've just made up? LOL! So go and get yourself a burnt orange Clio if you want mate, just expect loads of "You've been tango'd" comments afterwards :-)

 

Seriously tho, I have driven a 182 and I was very impressed by it's ability, but not very impressed at all by it's lack of refinement or build quality, but then you don't buy Subarus and Evos for class leading styling and build quality either.

 

The 182 has a some super sticky Michelins on it, specially made for the car, and they work well. Grip borders on the surreal and can show up far more expensive cars. Engine is very willing, if a little rough and 'vocal' but you'll never be wanting for more speed (imo)....especially if you decat them etc etc to go with the lovely in-house tubular manifold you get as standard.

 

The key to the Clio is light weight. Renault make no bones about it. If you want luxury, buy an exec barge. The Clio'Sport' was built for a purpose and it does it VERY well.....AND....they cost F ALL!! Bargain.

 

It's not my bag, but I see why people like them. I would definitely have a Clio Trophy in black for track and w/end use though.....if just for those awesome Sachs dampers......

fekin horrible mate - after the s3 it will be like sitting in a burger tray. totally abismal inside imo.

a mate has the v6, an awesome car, but even that is poo inside except for the seats.

you'd be going down about twenty levels in refinement and quality and pride.

Cheers it will be when it finally gets finished and on the road ! I got the Brembo's brand new off a guy on here cheaper than you could buy them from the dealers at the time. The Seat dealerships have now all cottoned onto the fact that the VW scene were buying them up cheap and putting them on MK1/2/3 Golf and Corrado's etc and have now increased their prices to like £180+VAT per caliper and £70+VAT per disc ! :roll: :x

Well I had a mate who had a 172 and his liked to be stuck in the local Renault garage a lot!

 

Another mate worked in that same garage and said they are the "cheapish mans quick blast" car, also stated the gearboxes were turd...

I know this sounds a little dubious Nathan, but have you considered a Golf MK4 PD150 with a remap? I know its a diesel, and like French cars people like to knock them, but with a decent remap you'll see 190BHP and 300lb/ft of torque. Not only that but you'll get very decent fuel economy if you're used to that from your HDI.

 

Mine only has 124BHP and 240lb/ft torque but I know the PD150's go like stink - I can only imagine what they are like after a remap.

Diseasels are rubbish. However, VW and Honda diesels are stunning.

 

I want the PD150 (I always thought it was a TD150 Jim?), pull like trains. Big, quick trains. Not like any we have over here! Probably a German train. Actually, German trains probably use VW diesel engines.

Don't get a scoob, get an Evo. The early ones aren't as bad as you would think, in fact, they're really quite good - less drover aids = more fun.

The 1.9 TDI engines VW sold in the later MK4's were Pump Deuse - so usually when they are being talked about, people refer to them as PD150 (or PD115 or PD130) to differentiate them from the normal TDI engines as they are much more popular and held in much higher regard.

 

I know they still have their sceptics and I know that petrol cars perform better, whatnot, but honestly try a PD150 - you will be surprised.

 

And you can get absolute minters with low mileage for sub £10k these days.

how much are the anniversary mk 4 golfs going for these days? start at around 10k dont they? i think they look mint, more than a gti but substitute to an r32. petrols 180 brake and the diesel 150 iirc?

The petrol ones typically go for about £1000/£1,500 less...

 

They are very nice motors but I don't think there is enough about them to differentiate them from the others. The body kit you can buy from VW specialists for £590, black headlights for £130, and the wheels another £1000... theres your anniversary clone just without the unique build number!

The ickle Renault can do great things but it's minuses outweigh it's positives overall imo. I prefer to feel like I'm sitting in something substantial and the Clio feels too flimsy for my tastes.

the anniversary already has a decent 1.8t with a healthy 180 bhp so could start from there if that wasnt enough? the interiors are quite nice too with a few extra styling goodies :)

I know 3 people that have had turbos go on there 52 plate renault. 2 lagunas and 1 clio. All resulting in new engines being required and huge bills.

Thankfully, 2 were paid by renault and other had to pay 4k.

 

I know this isn;t diesel, but it doesn;t say much for the build!!!
