Reckon its the way forward. This paragraph caught my attention too:

 

E85's higher octane rating adds 30bhp to the 150bhp turbocharged engine, and a 15% gain in fuel consumption can be had at high speeds, said Kjell ac Bergstrom, chief executive, of Saab Automobile Powertrain

Tesco 99 RON is 5% Biofuel and it all comes from the same supplier, unlike their regular stuff, so you're guaranteed to get a good tank every time.

But don't any cars running on E85 have to have been built especially to take it, with strengthened valves, as Ethanol burns at a much higher temp than standard petrol?

That's good to see, expecially power wise.

I have to say that I seem to get better power out of the chip fat than I do out of mineral diesel (although it's difficult to tell in such a slow barge :) ).
