Is it worth buying a stolen & recovered C?

Recommended Posts

What are the pitfalls of buying a car that is stolen recovered??

Apart from having to apply for a new log book, is it a bad idea?

just found this

o Category A:

Scrap only - this vehicle should have been crushed. It should never reappear on the road and there are no economically salvageable parts. It is of value only for scrap metal - e.g. a totally burnt-out vehicle.

o Category B:

The bodyshell should have been crushed. The vehicle should never reappear on the road, but it can be broken for spare parts plus any residual scrap metal.

o Category C:

Vehicle extensively damaged and insurer has decided not to repair. May be repaired and put back on the road. Has to pass an inspection to be re-registered as damaged repaired.

o Category D:

Vehicle damaged and insurer has decided not to repair. When fixed can be re-registered as damaged repaired.

o Category F:

Vehicle damaged by fire and insurer has decided not to repair. When fixed can be re-registered as damaged repaired.

If it's stolen recovered and doesn't seem to be damaged and you're getting it cheap, then I'd go for it.

Generally speaking people won't pay as much for a car that's been Cat listed, because of the stigma with it. However, if you can take lots of pics of what the car looks like now to prove that it wasn't written off due to being smashed up - I would. Hopefully it'll minimise the price difference when you sell it on.

Having said that, you won't pay as much for it now either, so it's a bargain way to get a C :)
