Smoothing Corrado VR Front Bumper

Recommended Posts

Car in at the Sprayers as I type :D

Went to see it today, to see how things are getting on... Very Pleased!!!

I'm thinking of smoothing the front bumper number plate recess???

Whats involved??? Is it just filler or plastic welding ???

wouldnt advise filler at all as it would surely crack - its too deep and flexible - don't really like the front smoothed look - personal choice i spose but are you sure? i've just took the lines out of mine

.....and if it at the painters. surely you've left it too late to consider this

No its being preppd at the moment..

How hard was it to get rid of the lines.... Just got to take into consideration the more work i make them do the more money they'll be asking for!!!!!

Just wanted to know what was involved in the front bumper thing...

I asked the guy for a figure who did some work on mine.

He said he's get a peice of plastic roughly the same size and depth and plastic weld it in, as filler would crack.

worthing imo, I'm having mine done when I get round to getting mine done :)

H8RRA don't seem like a fan either................its the placing of the number plate once the recess has been filled that makes it look worse too

I think it looks clean, but it doesn't look right too flat and bland IMO

I'm of mixed opinions... I do like it standard and smoothed. True though the number-plate does spoil the (trying to achieve look)

I'll sleep on it I think....

what lines are you talking about? The one that goes around the top of the bumper?

btw with that silver C, the plate looks terrible imo :(

if you have the January 2004 Sprinter, there's a pic of a Green C on the back cover, thats the look I want 8)

Plastic welding is a must as filler will just crack and fall out over time :( I got a few quotes from big name bodyshops to have mine done and the best price I could find was £340  i tried a local "back alley" place and the guy said he'd give it a go  and only charged £100. He even let me hang around for a few hours both days the bumper was there so I know its done right

I know someone that’s used wood  and filler to smooth the lights on his Mk3 Golf's front bumper.... I give it six months at the very most

Here's a pic with a smoothed from bumper. I think this one looks good, but wont you get pulled for not having a front number plate?

surely if you plastic weld it, it will still need a skimming of filler to smooth out the edges, which would then again crack over the summer period(s)

ive got a light skim over the plastic welded section to get rid of imperfections ,but im sure a pro could do it without needing filler ,mine hasn't cracked ,when i first tried it i just used fller and it lasted 3 days ,the section behind the number plate is a lot more flexible than the rest of the bumper ,so it does have to have a peice welded in ,and i stick the late in the window ,but only on a long run ,not for local trips

Mine hasn't cracked yet and its been done for about 18 months that was plastic welded and a skim of filler over the top, tis the blue 1 that herisites posted. and i've had no prob from the :lcop: or the mot man with regard to no front plate!!!!

Cheers

Ben
