biggerbigneil 0 Posted June 27, 2006 Hi All I have the 328i sport BBS's - 2 piece but a similar shape to the RS's The outer lip on the inside has an inch crack, which deflates the tyre. Can this be mended and where? A new one costs £400! Thanks Neil
Phil K 0 Posted June 27, 2006 I beleive it can be fixed... wouldn't know where to suggest though :? Get the refurbed ones with black centres that are on here ;)
Taggart 0 Posted June 27, 2006 I really wouldn't trust a fixed one myself, I know there are companies that offer it, but I wouldn't get it done. It would be a weak part of the wheel.
biggerbigneil 0 Posted June 27, 2006 yeah, just asked Hugo he said to get a new one I've emailed the guy with the refurbed ones with black centres so will see about that also!
Guest Posted June 27, 2006 yeah, i'm with xbones :) although a proper weld 'should' hold up, but it would still give me the willies
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 27, 2006 Are they splitties? Can't you just replace the dish plate? If the worst comes to the worst, it can be fillet welded and ground back, should be strong enough.
BigTartanJudge 0 Posted June 27, 2006 Just buy a second-hand one off eBay, cost £75-£100, loads of them always on there
PhatVR6 0 Posted June 27, 2006 I've had cracked wheels welded before. Not had any problem with them, but the guy was a professional alloy/stainless TIG welder, and it's all he did for a living, so he was pretty good at it.
biggerbigneil 0 Posted June 28, 2006 It's a two piece split - just the center is removable, there is no inside and outside dish, all one piece. Can anyone recommend a good place near Bracknell? Someone at work has said it would put the wheel out of balance?
PhatVR6 0 Posted June 28, 2006 nah, you grind or turn the weld back smooth so you can't see it.
Banana Man 0 Posted June 28, 2006 Exact Weld in East Grinstead did an excellent job on my alloy you cant even tell it's been done. I had an inch crack in my alloy last year, booked it in and they did it there and then for £10. Billy bargain if you ask me, cheaper than £700 for a new alloy :D They're number is 01342 311595 if you want to give them a call not too far from Guildford really,
PhatVR6 0 Posted June 28, 2006 the wheels off this are currently on my mk4 one of them had a 2" long crack in it, and an equally large flat spot on the rim. you'd never tell it's been repaired. it balances up as good as the rest, and has seen service on a croft track day without giving up on me (and I ran wide coming out of the hairpin and didn't half whack the edge of the track coming back off the grass too) so long as it's done professionally there shouldn't be a problem at all. biggerbigneil 0 Posted July 4, 2006 Wicked Wheels in Guildford are doing it for me - £40 including tyre off, tyre on and balancing, not bad I rekon
