AVO Coilovers... Opinions needed please for VR!!!

Have a chance of getting a set of Avo Coilovers at not a bad price!!!

 

Anyone got them on their VR6???

If you break them in properly i've heard they're very good. Bit harsh and thats made worse if you don't run them in properly.

 

I have a mate who is very much in the know on the dub scene, and has been for yonks, and he loves em.

 

Most seem to disagree though.....

Why avoid AVO though.. I can remember the Mk2 Golf days and people ranted and raved about them...

well like most things in life ya get what ya pay for...........best up yer budget and buy the better quality stuff.........not meant to sound snobbish etc but no sense spoiling the car by buying the budget stuff

avo's aren't exactly budget mate.

 

i'd say 550 quid or so is fairly mid-range to be honest?

I have no experience of the AVO's, but if your looking at around £550 for then i can deffinately recomend for the Weitecs!

All the cars I've been in that had Avos in rode terribly.

 

Gaz used to make Avo dampers and they are very good, but they had to make them to a price, which inevitabley led to them leaking and creating a bad reputation. Gaz no longer wanted to make things to a price so went solo and now do some great kits for good cash....http://www.gaz-shocks.com/

 

As for bedding in. There is nothing to bed in. Spring steel and dampers deterioate with age, they are only perfect on day one and get worse from then on. All it is is oil squeezing through tiny holes in the damper piston, you cannot improve it's performance with age.

the thing about avos is they are completely rebuildable completely adjustable and customisable but must on the dub scene want plug and play (me included)

Well I haven't heard anyone rave about them yet so... I'll leave em!!! The last thing i want is to go through the hassle of putting them on and wishing I'd never of got them in the first place....

You're right though, with subjective things like tyres and suspension, they are things you can only try yourself as one man's rock hard is another's blancmange mushy pea shieete.

My AVO's on my mk2 Golf GTI are/were fantastic. Loved thme.

 

The AVOs on the VR - rubbish.
