Remocing silicone/mastik from paintwork

Just had my windscreen replaced, and there's some silicone sealant/mastik remaining on the paintwork around the windscreen seals (previous owner had applied a layer!).

 

Any ideas on removing it?

Carefully cut the edge next to the windscreen with a blade, making sure you don't damage paint, then rub and scratch it off with a fingernail...

...or go to B&Q and buy some silicone sealant remover.... :roll:

yup.... used it plenty in the past... pee&poo whore-houses stock it...

 

Basically, it just softens it up so you can wipe it off with kitchen roll (or similar) 8)

Bleach softens Silicon..... wang a bit of neat Domestos on it and leave for an hour, then it should come off OK.

 

Sealant remover is pants. It tries to soften the silicon by crystalising it but I've never found it to be any good at all tbh.

yup, bleach won't affect paint...

I think methalated spiritits is the best thing to remove silicon but not sure if it will affect the paint or not...

I've used supposed silicon remover in the past and it's pretty rubbish IMO, all it does is send it back to the way it was when it came out of the tube - still a nightmare to deal with.

yup, bleach won't affect paint...

 

Is that for sure mate - as I've still got glue/double sided tape on my door from taking the bump strips off ! ? ? ? ? thanks for the help
