IS THERE HOPE?

Recommended Posts

Just remember that if you get it for a good price and it gets too expensive to run just sell it.

It might break yer heart but not your wallet  :D

I think for a vr6 your looking at high maintanence (dunno how to spell it, my excuse is im drunk) i mean a cambelt tensioner is £100 thats shocking, and if u go for a g60 the charger will more than likely hit u in the pocket some time, the corrado is a unique car and with any unique car, parts aint cheap, but you will not be dissapointed by it, the vr6 is a dream car for me ive had to opt for the 1.8 16v until the insurance companys start to give me sensible quote for one, with any car in the same class as a vr6 corrado youd be looking at very similar prices for maintanence, its a sports car you cant expect anything less, a lot of ppl are saying they spend so much on there cars with mods and maintanece, trust me if u buy a car like this u 2 will find your self spending silly money on mods also as it suits the car down to a T, but for maintenece alone im saying £500 a year as a guess dunno if anyone would agree with me buts its a rough estimate, and spread over a 12 month it wont seem that much, but u must find a well looked after car in order to keep the costs down.

Beetlebug_2001: I appreciate that response (regardless of alcohol content!). That's also pretty durn reassuring. I have no problem making mods -- hell, that's why I'm gettin' the car! I want a car that people will look at you like: "what the hell is that?" then I get to kick their ass! This one that I am looking at seems to have been really well taken care of. Hopefully the only money I'll have to spend on it will be fuel, mods, and minor repairs! Thanks all.

This might be changing the concept of this post, but: Anyone have any great Corrado stories that might also reassure me of this decision (i.e. ass kicken on the freeway...)?

I had a "race" with a BMW 328i (approx 18 months old) on a dual carriageway near Leeds around a month ago, private road of course.. . Fairly evenly matched on the straight but once we hit a few bends (slowed to approx 120mph) his car was all over the road and I steamed on past.. :rambo:

Think he must have "filled his trousers" cos he nearly hit the kerb a couple of times.

Nice! When I test drove the VR6 Im looking at, I creamed a BMW too! (i think it was a measly 325 though) Would love to take a 328 or something comparable. Any other big stories? I'm sure there are members that have some good tales of woe, or conquest! Bump...

I've ploughed literally £1000s into my VR6 over 7 months. Most of it was not needed but purely to satisfy my own appetite for perfection. In all honesty, the car would still be running fine now in the same condition I bought it.

...

My friend bought a WRX subaru impreza and he had more problems with that than I'm every likely to encounter on my VR6. But he still loved it. Sure the Corrado is a tempetuous little madam at times     , but aren't all the best relationships stormy (pun intented!) ??

Kev

I'm with Kev on this one...

I have spent about 6K on my C in the last two years (excluding my recent enforced repair spending  )... and when I look at what I've done with that, only about 1/2 of it is directly related to servicing and ESSENTIAL repairs.

However, I wasn't as well informed as I should have been, so I got caught out with a high mileage motor, roundabout the time a lot of things needed replacing/renewing. Virtually all the parts on my C were still the factory fitted originals, so it's not really that suprising they all went at around 90-100K miles and 7-8 years worth of use... It could be argued on a number of items, they could have survived for a year or too more, but I wasn't prepared to take the risk.

Currently driving a Pug 306 1.9D as a courtesy car whilst my C is in the bodyshop... like I needed it, but it's a good reminder of just what a superb car the C really, really is.

I'm sure most people on this forum would agree that the extra expense you MAY get over another car, is more than outweighed by the sheer joy of owning/driving a C.

...oh and that  factor is priceless!

Absolutely. It's not until you drive other cars that you think could be better than your car that you realise you were wrong to doubt it. For example, my Dad has just picked up his new company car, a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (diesel) which I was in awe of. Really really strong and punchy acceleration, engine smoother than the VR6, near silent cabin, awesome stereo, aircon, interior AND exterior foot lighting - the works. BUT, it's just no Corrado. Devoid of any character and emotion. It's just a car you get in and drive to work. The Corrado you form a relationship with. Sounds corny but I think you get the drift!

Indeed. Over 3 months of ownership of another car I'd always fancied, a graphite black E30 325i Tourer (the sexiest compact estate ever imo), it needed a new steering rack, new cyl head, new gearbox, ALL suspension bushes, MAF sensor, water pump etc etc and I by comparison of the money I've sunk into the VR, I resented it. I don't mind on the C!

See, I completely agree with you guys. After a lot of thought and the need for a car, the fact that if I DID get another car, I would always want to be in a corrado. I just don't think that anything else will make me as happy (except maybe a 2004 M3 or Nissan Skyline!) So until I find the Corrado I will buy, I think that I'm taking my bike to work! Has anyone pulled any cars recently on the expressways? I love racin' stories...Everytime I hear a good one, I tell my brother (turbo'd miata -- friggin' fast) and make him jealous! Thanks agian guys!

I've not really had many races in my VR6 but a load of mates and I went to a skirmish once, in our own cars. Mate no1 has a Leon Cupra R (210bhp) and mate no2 has a Subura WRX (245bhp). There was nothing in it. All 3 were evenly matched in both handling and acceleration, although the Scooby was quicker off the line (4 x 4, 2 x LSDs and 1 x electronic centre diff).

I almost lost a race with a Golf GT TDI (150bhp) though :( Way too much torque for the VR to compete with!

Well, Tha VR6 I was gonna get just got sold to a guy in Washington DC and was shipped there this last weekend. Now there are very few Corrados around me worth looking at. If anyone knows anyone in the states looking to sell a VR6, drop me a line. I'm looking. Thanks all!

80,000 miles on A G60 ! ....

well consider checking to see if charger has been overhauled.

I was advised to listen for rustling leaves and when you can hear that avoid.

I have a 16v and realise there is a differance between A g60 with a charger rebuild due and a VR6 requiring a new timing chain.

If you can avoid things and this place is a superb place to read about problematic 'characteristics of the vehicle' you can assured of a good car.

Maybe you only hear about the bad things,as bad news travels fast.

I think it depends on what your going to do with the car when you get it.....

Mod it ? polish n port it ? or just keep it as it is ?

Someone mentioned a £100 for a service I reckon thats cheap if its been done right.

I tend to do the simple things and let the mechanic who your paying for his expertise to do the things I cant comprehend.

Its down to buying the right corrado even if you pay a bit more for it,its better than cutting corners in the first place.

You can buy cheap Corrados...sure,but I would rather pay a little more for what you know in your head is right and your not going to have it a week and find something serious is wrong with it.

I bought the sixth one I went to see/spoke to owner about I consider that being Prudent.

DO they have A.A.A inspections there like the A.A have here might be well worth the $100 dolalrs or so for peace of mind, just make sure the inspector knows corrados and thier 'Characteristics ;-) '

Remember the main posters here are a mind of Information.....

Good Luck

A 150 TDI and 6 speed box conversion is more appealing. Up to 200bhp and 325lb/ft and 45+mpg

No more chains, MAF sensors, plugs, leads etc to worry about - bliss :D

I'd consider a 2.0 G60 conversion though as I've driven one. VERY quick. 246bhp with 238lb/ft 8)
