car for the winter??

Recommended Posts

i'm thinking of getting myself a car to see me through the harshest of the winter months, maybe a golf mk2/3 valver upto about £1500 & get my vr tucked up in the garage for the winter, or on the other hand i could lavish the cash on my c on maybe a new suspension set up & some nice alloys???

pro's & con's for both really, any thoughts on what i should do or if anyone else runs a winter car & how that works out for them i'd love to hear about it!!

I was thinking about doing a similar thing myself purely to keep the miles off the Rado. I need a motorway cruiser for when i need to escape back up north.

Pros for garaging are no miles going on, no winter filth and salt.

Cons, you can do quite a bit to your motor for 1500 notes.

I suppose it depends on how much you use your Corrado.

I remember mine not being very keen on getting up the coast road by Jesmond Dene last winter when stuck in traffic!!

I've gotta Mk2 8v as a daily, and it's one of the best things i've ever bought for the Raddo!

£1500 would get you a mint Mk2!

or a trusty mk3 gti,,,,, 2.0 8v is really good on fuel and is pretty pokey when it wants to be!

the one i've got had 100k exactly on it n reg and was £1400 and still looks quite modern....

i am swaying towards looking for another motor, i have had both the golf mk 2 & 3 8v, loved the mk2 & even the mk3 was pretty good.

get the c tucked up in a nice cosy garage & save putting on those thousands of miles on as i use it every day & probably manage between 12-13k miles a year. was thinking of sorting something out with the insurance company where i say run the corrado for 6 months & the other one for the same, 6 months tax on each aswell.

yeah i know what you mean goldie i work right in the centre of newcastle & have staff parking so i actually go up that road everyday & have to battle my way round the toon...

Believe it or not, it was actually cheaper for me to insure both my Corrado and Golf, than just the Raddo on its own!

Because the miles were severley reduced for the Raddo and it wasn't being used as for the work drive, also the Golf I insured for as little as possible, the combined cost of the two came out for just under what the Raddo used to be!

very interesting, i especially like the bit about it being 'cheaper to insure 2 cars than 1', i need all my powers of persuasion to make the mrs understand why i want to do this as it goes a bit like this at the moment..."what the bl@#dy hell do you need 2 cars for you can only drive 1 at a time"  women eh !!

Mk. II golf all the way for me.

Loads of bits on the 'rado that fit, so when I get random new bits for the 'rado I stick the old 'rado parts on the Golf as they are in better condition.
