Corrado or Prelude Advice please

Recommended Posts

Firstly Ello, I'm very new to your site and forum.

I'm in the throws of changing my car, and need something with that special something you can't quite put your fingure one. I have owned a Prelude before a 2.0 standard one, and it was very nice.

I changed it for a 325i Coupe BWM E36. The BMW is great fun and a pleasure to drive, however I hate being a BMW driver we all get treated so badly. Also with 14 MPG she's hungry.

The BMW is going and I'm not sure weather to go back to the old faithfull Prelude (2.2 V-tech this time) or try something else. I've seen a nice looking Corrado 2.0 16v. Ebay number 320049985815

Just after your thoughts, and I couldn't find the buyers guide if someone can post a link that would be great.

I was expecting a response something along those lines, any help on the buyers guide, and views on the Corrado I gave the auction number for in my first post?

Hmmmm i can feel the G60 or VR debate coming

pros and very few cons for both. I went from a G60 to a VR never regretted it, however i loved the G60.

The choice is yooours! :D

Looks ok mate, but the scratch on the bumper looks a bit like a hole.

How quick was the prelude?

Yeah that definately looks like a hole. Could be filled and smoothed easily, surely. Correct me if im wrong but it looks Flash red, given the orangy-ish tint. Dont see alot of flash reds about but im sure a front bumper in that colour could be sourced.

Thx i'll take a good look at the bumper damage, if I go see the Corrado.

To answer your question Stan:

A standard 2.0 Prelude will do a quarter mile in a rather slow 16s ish. The 2.2 V-tech with it's 220BHP will manage to get under the 15s line. With a bit of tweeking this can have another 1/2 second taken off, bringing to the Porsche Boxster S times.

The only Corrado result I've seen was:

VW Corrado VR6 190BHP 15.1s

But all that being said, I'm after that special something some cars have, not quick 1/4 miles.

I used to drive a Honda CRX Del Sol, that red lines at 8000 RPM great fun out the lights with a bike, because your changes come at the same time. lol.

I hate being a BMW driver we all get treated so badly.

Not a big surprise when the majority of BMW drivers are the biggest nobs on the road, treating everyone else like a swarm of begging kids to be ignored and pushed out the way..

And just the look of a BMW (particularly the bangled ones) screams "I'm a smug git"..

All IMHO.. ;)

Before I bought my vr I did consider a prelude (would have had to be the 2.2), but when I went to look at one I didn't even bother test driving it - it just didn't feel right for me when I sat in it - car seemed far too big on the inside, compared to the interior space. Anyway, you've owned a prelude and clearly liked it, so you know better than most of us on here what that's like.

I expect the ownership experience will be completely different, and suspect the prelude will be the more reliable car - but probably a lot duller.

I'd say try a Corrado - any model, though probably the vr would be best. At worst, you'll not like it and want to sell again in a couple of months - chances are you won't lose much (if anything) if that happens, but more than likely you'll ended up hooked like the rest of us on here.

If you can test drive a 'rado you'll probably get a good idea straight away whether it's right for you or not.

Thank you for the advice, and I'm sure the buyers Guide will be very useful. I'm going to try and get to both the Prelude and the Corrado on Sunday, but they are 90 miles apart.

I'll let you know...

catch22.. no one shows any love to BMW drivers, you'd wait forever for someone to let you out at a junction etc so you have to push everywhere..

Like the latest gen Prelude, although it's starting to show it's age. The Corrado on the other hand, has timeless looks imho. Corrado much more full of character, and more fun to drive. VR and G60 much, much more torquey too. Prelude probably waaaay more reliable. If you're prepared for some garage bills etc, I reckon the Corrado would be far more satisfying.
