Where does everyone get their parts?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Might soon be taking on another Corrado for restoration purposes (must be mad) if the price is right and it looks like it needs a lot doing to it.... Was just wondering if you can recommend any good places to obtain parts from. Not necessarily cheap places (like any of them are) but the ones with good service who know what they're on about. Had some bad experiences with various outlets in the past when I was working on a mk2 golf.

Also I'd just like to commend everyone here for creating such a great resource :D

Despite their reputation, quite a few of the VAG dealers have good parts departments, know what they're talking about and will do you a discount.

Otherwise if you've got a local VW Specialist garage you could ask if they'd order parts for you and sell them on to you at trade price.

Either way, getting your hands on a copy of the electronic VAG parts catalogue (either in the form of ETKA or ETOS, doesn't matter which) will help you out no end.

Cheers for that, the shameful truth is not too sure what I do have in my local area as mostly deal with mail order places. Though after my last project that's gonna stop.

You gotta try your luck at your local VW dealer and see how happy they are with you coming in for random bits and pieces. Both of my most local VW dealers (coventry and leamington) are both pretty good, with the Coventry one being best.

Alternatively there are some other good suppliers including Genuine Parts Company (http://www.gpcvwaudi.com - phone them, using the number off the site!) - they only do trim stuff though, not mechanical bits. AVS are good also (http://www.vwspares.co.uk) - they mostly do pattern parts but seem to be of good quality, and some stuff is OE grade.

Hope that helps a bit :)

Yeah that's great, I'm actually looking to get a few trim bits and pieces for the G60 when I get round to it so that first site should prove useful :D And yes I do start one thing before I've completely finished another....

It's not what you know it's who you know.... That must come in handy if your G60 is anything like mine

Will have to shop around a bit more this time. Well I am now the owner of two corrados. Picking up a 2 litre valver either tomorrow night or Saturday. It's gonna need a new wing and there is a nasty scratch on the back that'll need sorting, also some engine TLC and a bloody good clean!!!! Possible blowing from the exhaust as well. Plus anything else he "forgot" to mention but I'll find out when I pick it up. Should keep me out of trouble for a while.... Will get some pics up soon.
