Im gonna get the D90s mirror polished, just saving up some cash, and i think im gonna get myself some pressed steel plates made up next week then pick up some delocked handles. Little did I know that 5 minutes later someone would rear end the car on a roundabout! I'd only had the car 2 weeks which was gutting. Anyway he accepted liability and off the car went to the VW bodyshop who told me that the rear bumpers werent being made by VW anymore and that the car was a total loss! So... I rang VW in Wakefield when I got back from uni and they told me they had 3 in stock for £479+VAT, needless to say I rang the bodyshop to see what was going on and they told me they couldnt fit the car in now for repair. Anyway, long story short(ish), the insurance are giving me a cash in lieu settlement and I managed to get a bumper for £50, happy days. Car should be back on the road in a month or so. Turns out the damage was purely cosmetic which is a big relief! :D :D
g60greeny 0 Posted June 7, 2007 pheeeeeeeeeeeew, least ya gonna get it repaired mate, out of interest roughly how much they offer you :D
yorkshireone 0 Posted June 7, 2007 Yeah I know, i would have been gutted if they wrote it off, the damage is minimal!! Just waiting for them to ring me back this afternoon with the offer *fingers crossed* I got them to get estimates from VW bodyshop so it will hopefully be quite a bit, I think labour there is £60p/h or summat. gezza 0 Posted June 7, 2007 yeah that should be interesting i have never claimed and always wondered what they would pay out on somat like a corrado vr6?? always under the impression they would give rock bottem???? anyway it looked mint before hand so get it back on wrong asap
yorkshireone 0 Posted June 7, 2007 Well they arent actually writing the car off, they are just giving me the cash i need to repair it based on the VW estimate and Im gonna repair it myself. :) you 2 going to VW Festival in August? would be good to get a corrado contingent there, ther was only about 6 last year

vr6storm 0 Posted June 7, 2007 never even knew this was up in my neck of the woods, there's normally a weekly VW meet on a Tuesday at the Beach Ballroom if you fancy "showing it off"
bcstudent 0 Posted June 7, 2007 I have a feeling that insurance companies have a maximum labour rate they pay body shops of about £30 per hour. I could be wrong about that though. Private work is very likely to be around £60 per hour though. Either way you're gonna win big time on the bumper cost saving!
yorkshireone 0 Posted June 7, 2007 yeah vr6storm i go to aberdeen uni, im back in wakefield for summer now but ill be up in september, I saw Pau1 down at the beach asda a few weeks ago. Latest: Just got the insurance estimate back from the insurance company. Details as follows: Labour value £753.00 Paint and Materials £160.00 Number Plate backing £42.21 Rear Bumper £430.00 ABS Sensor £100.00 Wheel Alignment £56.00 Other £96.00 Sub-total £1581.21 VAT @ 17.50 £276.72 Total £1857.93 Not too sure about it at the mo, think that the labour charges are maybe a bit low so Im gonna try and squeeze them a bit and see what happens. :? The_Dude 0 Posted June 7, 2007 I had much the same thing happen to me, though my bumper survived. The quote I got for repair was £1600, the car was only worth 1k with the alloys on, so the buggers wrote it off. I don't mind, its given me a chance to raid my savings and get a vr! Check out the damage, its sooo minimal. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=57013&hilit=

KADVR6 0 Posted June 22, 2007 there's a complete set of de-locked handles on e-bay mate, cheaper than buying them from the stealers http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=009 karl
yorkshireone 0 Posted June 22, 2007 roughy how much will they be from the stealers, not sure what max bid should be? hehe, just noticed the seller is in sutton coldfield, not u by any chance? :D
yorkshireone 0 Posted June 27, 2007 Just popped down to the bodyshop to get some pics of the damage before it gets repaired (plus getting some other tasty bits done whilst its there :) ) Can you believe they tried to write it off?!? 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdftmpphpDBjUrW.jpg[/attachment:61620] tmpphpO1SH5C.jpg[/attachment:61620]
mrbeige 0 Posted June 27, 2007 They tried to right it off for that? You've got to be kidding??
yorkshireone 0 Posted June 27, 2007 Yeah I know, they told me that all of the parts needed are obsolete so they had no choice but to write it off! I decided to get a cash payment instead so I can just fix it myself. Insurance companies are unbelievable!!
KADVR6 0 Posted June 27, 2007 hi Jamie, hope the repair work goes well mate, also i noticed you wanted some RH ZW'1's just a little word of advice, dont do it :) they weigh as much as pluto, and you will feel the difference in acceleration/steering, mainly the steering, as i have driven a corrado with those alloys on, and compared to my alloys it was like the power steering was not working on the other corrado. karl
yorkshireone 0 Posted June 28, 2007 Cheers, should be getting the car back in the next few weeks as the bloke is really busy at the moment, will give me time to go down and fit the DDI dials and get the D90s sent away for a polish. Yeah was looking at the ZW1s a few weeks back but decided im just gonna clean up the D90s and stick with them for a while, cheers for the advice. :D Jamie
mtc R32 0 Posted June 28, 2007  Miss this car dearly..... Still looks mint even with the bump..... Mad they were writting it off though  IMO the D90's on a black corrado are the best looking OEM wheel. I wouldn't change a thing about this car..... but hey thats me
yorkshireone 0 Posted June 28, 2007 yeah I know it is lovely :D Gonna get the D90s mirror polished (as you know marcus) plus get the delocked handles sprayed and put on. Also considering having the bumper totally smoothed ie. fogs and indicators removed. Think thats about it, should look sweet 8)
yorkshireone 0 Posted July 27, 2007 Just got the corrado back from being repaired, so happy. Bloke did a lovely job and only charged me £300, hmm, that leaves me with £1000 left from my payout :)
