Your first car ?

Recommended Posts

Mine was also a 1973 Mini - 850cc with a 1.0ltr conversion.

I used to have to carry a hammer in the car all the time as the top engine mount was knackered and kept hitting the jet for the carburretor on the bulkhead so it would bend and stick. The hammer was to knock it back into shape! - Why I didn't just replace the engine mount i have still never figured out!!!!

1st I owned was a (gulp) Renault 5 GTS, had it 3 years, and sold it before it really opened out my Wallet....

And Bought a bug and slid all the way down the slippery slope to here!

TBH The 5 was good fun, quite chuckable and nippy with a webber twin as stock on it!

The Corrado was my first car, as much as it cost me to insure/run/fix , I don't regret it one bit!

Doubt I'll find as fun or as good looking car. :(

A Ford Fiesta Zetec-S (mk5) in imperial blue. Was a great car tbh, ok built quite cheaply but was a bloody good drive, it werent as quick as the rival Saxo VTS or Pug 106 GTI etc but handled like it was on rails (especially with powerflex bushes and strut braces etc), went fairly well and looked pretty good too. BUT i just had to own a corrado and it had to be a VR6 and so here i am today :D

Absolutely no disrespect meant heresites but there's no way a zetec S is as quick as a 106 gti.. with very few mods a 106 can do a sub 7 0-60 and even as standard they'll crack a 7.2 or thereabouts. I think the zetec were about 9 or 10 seconds weren't they...

I'm sure they handle well and they do look nice but they aren't very quick.

Well spotted  yeah i said its not as quick as its rivals the saxo and pug but still went fairly well and handled really well. They were way too slow really for what they were, if they had similar power output to the pug and saxo etc they would of been awesome cars. The new ones aint so good either!

954cc Peugeot 205 Trio..

To be fair it was really reliable (careful lady owner prior to me) but I treated it like crap. It wouldn't go any faster than about 80MPH and cornering on it was frankly terrifying. But if only all motoring could be as cheap as that! Was superb in that respect! :)

A rusty 1.0 ltr Fiat Uno :o

45bhp, heater never worked properly and would frost on the inside.

When you shut the doors they sounded like they were made from old coke cans

One day a truck did me a favour and hit the side whilst parked up. After that I graduated to Mk2 Golf GTI :)

Hillman Imp with Greetham Engineering 998 engine, twin 40 Webbers, lowered on Spax adjustables, Viva (yes Vauxhall) front disk conversion, 12" 5 spoke slots and real black glass rather than modern stick on stuff.

Plus a zillion other mods only my bank manager could possibly tell you about. I'm sure it would seem pretty tame these days but almost 25 years ago it was a flying machine!

And you think Corrados are unreliable
