What pipe is this? is it for aircon???

Recommended Posts

can anyone help me out??

at the front just in front of the radiator(while standing infront of the grill) in the engine bay theres a thick black rubber pipe with all i can descibe is a tyre valve on it and the pipe follows all the down to a unit just below the alternator. sorry i dont know how to up load pics.

what is it for, is it for aircon?

theres no switch on the heater controls for air con, but i checked behind the panels and found that some of wires have taped up. does it mean that my car has aircon on it but the panel has been replaced or what??

Sounds like it could be as teh compressor would be mounted below your alternator...

Do you have a condensor (refrrigerant rad) mounted in front of your colling rad???

There's certainly not a screw valve there on a standard VR and it is the type of fitting usually put onto AC pipes for recharging.

The extra radiator and compressor will be the give away though. If you're not sure, post up a pic of your engine bay and it should be easy enough to tell.

just checked the radiator, theres two of them.

one main a1 nd a slightly smaller radiator in front of it with the black pipe going into it following all the way into what must be the compressor underneath the alternator.

by the looks of it then i think its got aircon, probably just need to try and find the right heater controls panel for it.

iv got pics on my fone but dont know how to upload them onto here, can anyone do it for me if i txt them to you??

Well it sounds like you've got AC then.

The UK Corrados had dealer-fit AC systems made by Diavia, so you won't have a specific AC control panel as such, just 2 buttons with "Norm" and "Max" written on them...

I hate to be negative here but does nobody else think that if the buttons are missing there's a fair chance that someone has removed them at some stage due to a problem with the a/c? It's not like the Diavia install is the most reliable part ever fitted to a Corrado is it???

Probably the best place to start is and aircon specialist, see if the system will vac down and hold vac first. If it does you're onto a winner. Do a search on here and you should be able to find the Diavia wiring diags, check out all the wiring and give it a try. All you're waiting for then is a summer to test it on

And at the same time you post to say you've found the buttons!

Straight to the a/c place then and get it vac checked and gassed 8)

i just gotta find somwhere where i can get it checked out and gassed as theres definatly no gas in it becos ive pressesd the valve where you charge it up from and nothing comes out of it.

That's a proper result you had there, free aircon! Just take a look in Yellow Pages under "Car Air Conditioning" for the one nearest you, there'll be zillions around you.
