Oil temp at high speeds

Recommended Posts

Recently I've been driving all over the damn place doing various airport runs and as per usual on the Autobahn's its been nice and clear to go as fast as I am able considering the road conditions etc...in doing so I noticed the other day that my oil temp has risen to 128. Is that bad? Too high? It quickly settled back to normal, but it got me wondering as I was well into the three figures mph for quite some time...

What is a normal 'high' running temp for the oil? The water never really seems to rise, so I'm not really worried about that.

Cheers!

the hottest i've ever had mine was 136!!! - that was going flat out though for about 15 miles solid (at night on a deserted road i hasten to add!)

me thinks when i fit another engine next year i will splash out on a cooler!

Ok, so maybe its a good idea to get an oil cooler!

Where can I get one on the internet? I'd probably have to get one posted over here...if I take it to a regular german mechanic I take it he'd know what it was and how to fit it?

Just got back to London from Birmingham going swiftly a lot of the way and the temp was sitting around 118. Have worried for a while how hot is too hot - I guess that wasn't too high and I don't do runs like that often, but then its higher than I'd like on a car I want to keep so I guess a cooler is in order..

Getting pulled by the police and my headlights failing on the way back were two slightly more interesting elements to the journey! :)
