Arguement Needing Settling - arrrgh?!

Guys,

 

Sad though it may sound,I was having a conversation with a few of the lads in work about the paint colour red on cars - well actually the fact that I would not have a car in that colour at all! We started chatting about the two common reds that VW have used over the years,i.e. Mars and Tornado.

 

Can anyone tell me which was used first on production VWs,anything from a Scirocco to Mark I Golf and also which is the darker of the two.

 

I thought that Mars was the more "orangey" of the two and that it was the first red used???

 

Help !!!

 

Sorry I know that I am really sad but life is tough and I would appreciate any feedback...

red can be either very good or just plain awful.

 

all depends on how well its been looked after, that its not pink and that its all the same colour of red.

 

remember looking at a scoobie about 3 yrs ago and it looked great. we went to the petrol styation and under the lights it looked or was should i say about 4 different colours nand the touch up was a different shad again.

They also had a third red that was commonly used which was in between which was Flash Red.

yeah i was going to mention Flash Red,family has had all three over the years still got a gti in tornado and my raddo is tornado too.

Golf MKIs were MARS red which was more orange than red... Tornado Red came in during the MKII golfs production run... 8)

just to add to it too...........in the R32 brochure the red available is also called Tornado red........but to me it looks a fair bit darker than the 80's/90's Tornado red :?

I used to have a Mars MK1 and a Tornado MK2 and IIRC, there was a couple of shades available for each. i.e. Mars red no 1 and no 2. Had no idea which was which though, but I think the Y and A reg MK1s used no 2.

Yeah, I think you may well be right about that... I know that the Beetle specialists I used to work for sprayed a few in Mars red, but what colour they were before is a different question.... If you want a REALLY rich, dark red, try VW's 1960's RUBY red... MMMMmmmmmmmmm...... 8)

and the beetle GT was available in loverly tomato red IIRC :wink:
