Neil VR6 0 Posted April 11, 2008 *Sigh* My poxy sunroof has packed up :bad-words: It was replaced with a scrap one not long ago and the guy who had the car before me actually fitted a Passat switch to it as he said they were more reliable. Now it doesn't work. It doesn't half open, or try to open, it's just dead. I've checked the manual and the fuse for it is shared with the rear wiper circuit and that still works fine so it can't be the fuse. What should I check first as the last thing I want to to is get it stuck open as the car's kept outside? My wits end is approximately..........................here: :brickwall: Thanks in advance 8)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted April 11, 2008 First thing to do is check it actually moves! Clipped to the motor under the switch cover lives the emergency crank handle, which is there in case the roof jams open, enabling you to close it manually. So drop down the switch panel, slide the arrowed plastic cover over and slot the allen key into it's recepticle, and turn! One way tilts, the other slides, you'll soon see which direction does what. If it's very stiff to move manually, then there's no way on earth the tiny motor will ever shift it. You knew it was coming when you bought the car, so welcome to "Club sunroof"
joby 0 Posted April 11, 2008 Best thing to do once you get it sorted is just do what i do and dont use it :)
Neil VR6 0 Posted April 11, 2008 Cheers Kev, I'll try that tonight. I'm hoping it's electrical. There wasn't a snap or ping when I tried it and realised it was broken. Now I realise why there's a random allen key in my glovebox from when I picked the car up.... :? Why did I buy another C? What's wrong with me?
skinnyman9000 0 Posted April 11, 2008 I bought a new sunroof for mine ans spent the weekend with my mate stripping the entire interior. Then it rained so we stuck a cover on the car and came back to it next weekend. i spent hours fine tuning it to sit perfectly, and now after all that effort i dont use it in fear of it breaking! so after spending all that time and effort getting a working sunroof i dont use it anyway! Neil VR6 0 Posted April 12, 2008 Well it's certainly not the mech or the pulleys and cables because the sunroof miraculously started working on the way home today. My guess is a switch fault?
skinnyman9000 0 Posted April 12, 2008 Intermittent faults dont have a cause, its just called 'corrado ownership'
MonkeyVR6 0 Posted April 13, 2008 I have had this a couple of times - the sunroof jamming open that is - but it closes fine when I lock the car. In the case of an emergency, where is the manual winder thing for the sunroof located?! Cheers.
Neil VR6 0 Posted April 18, 2008 I've got a random allen key in the glovebox although to be fair I haven't checked it's the one with actually fits the sunroof  A week on and my sunroof still seems to be working
