Ice White Socks 0 Posted December 1, 2003 Hi, My Corrado VR6 has performed its monthly party piece which involves it, well, simply breaking down :cry: . This time I was driving to ma local VW specialist to pick up four new Toyo Proxes when the engine temp light came on. Managed to limp it to the garage, opened it up only to see steam pouring out of the pressure release valve in the header tank :shock: . The guys filled it back with water- started it up only for the same thing to happen again. It doesn't appear to be the head gasket (No white smoke, No water in oil, No combustion gases detetected in the steam) but whatever the problem it is causing serious pressure in the system :? . Anyone got any idea what it could be?? (I was thinking down the lines of water pump, jammed thermoststat etc). Cheers for any advice Mike Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

2cc 0 Posted December 2, 2003 Well, as I myself experienced recently, the heater hose connected to the back of the engine is prone to pin holes/splitting. A hole will allow the system pressure to be released which tends to reduce the boiling point. It will probably also be blowing off there as well as at the header. Worth a look perhaps. Riki 0 Posted December 2, 2003 Is the radiator fan running? There was a recall on a few c's due to them siezing up. Check to see if the blades turn freely. Try bridging out the thermo switch and see if it runs. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 2, 2003 Could be pump or jammed stat. Have a look for a puddle on the floor under the water pump, if there is, it's internal seal has blown and coolant is then channeled out of the relief valve and to atmosphere. Could also be the hose 2CC mentioned or an air lock. Show it who's boss and attack it with a new stat and some fresh coolant. And remember, please do not fill engine up via the header tank, do it via the rad top hose and you won't introduce air :lol: Kev Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The thermostat had not only jammed but it had disintegrated. :shock: The garage has ordered a new thermostat and thermostat housing and should be back on the road tonight :D :D . Ice White Socks 0 Posted December 4, 2003 It cost £116- which considering that the car broke down right next to their garage so I couldn't have taken it anywhere else sounds pretty good to me. Price included all the parts, seals etc and a coolant flush and refill with G12 so I am chuffed. It a good garage actually (Volkspartz- Durham).
