Hello - my first post ... Heater Matrix VR6

Hello Everyone ... great website & what a great car the Corrado is. Well most of the time!

 

About time I got my initial post in here too :)

 

Unfortunately the heater matrix has gone on my 1994 VR6 :(

 

Steamy Windows & Tina Turner come to mind !

 

When I had my discs & pads replaced the garage technician said the part itself is not expensive (£25 - £40?) but to replace it the whole dash has to come out. I was going to attempt it myself but he wished me good luck. Apparently can be bit of a nasty job ... So HELP, is it ....? Otherwise I have been quoted approx. 5 hours labour, may be around £300 !

Hi mate, welcome along :)

 

The heater matrix is a dash out job really...I think you can get away without it...but it just makes things easier to get at with it removed in my opinion.

 

Its not actually a massively hard job, more time consuming id say.

 

Everthing inside the car is pretty self explanatory as far as removal, its just that there are some bolts/nuts in the engine bay holding the dashboard (x2) and another 2 holding the heater box if i remember right.

 

Just a case of taking your time, and working cleanly.

welcome to da forum!!

 

I had the same problem about a year ago, there is a load of info on here if you do a search.

I started off thinking i would let my local vag specialist do it for me but to save a bit of time and money i took out a load of dash bits for them so i wasn't paying them to just unscrew things. When i took it to the garage, they reckoned that i was almost there and might as well carry on!! So i did and it saved me a few hundred quid!!

 

So have a go even if you get stuck you can get a garage to finish it off i guess.

As mentioned it's not difficult just fidely and time consuming, i did it with the dash in (even though a good part of it came out!!) I would say that removing the pasenger seat will help, as then you can lie on ya back to reach up behind the dash, or just get a small child with little hands!!

Defo recommend doing yourself, as previously said take your time and bit fiddly in places (defo them 2 bolts for the dash with my fatt fingers) but you would certainly fell a great deal of satisfaction from it. :D

I did this last year and started doing a write-up with pictures, but unfortunately never finished writing it. :(

GreenVR6 - My heater Matrix started to leak coolant resulting in a strong smell from the heater vents as well as wet carpet....anyways to cut a long story short, earlier today I took out the dash and removed the matrix. Have had a browse on the forum to find recommended replacements and it seems that it's best to buy the genuine part.

 

I have found the following website selling the part and I think it could be the genuine Valeo matrix for a very reasonable price of £36.01 inc VAT & delivery.
