mbaker8v 0 Posted September 3, 2008 Been getting a lot of banging / scraping noise from the front suspension on my corrado over the last few months... My local VW specialist has just rung to say the front drivers side strut on my FK Konigsport coilovers is knackered and needs replacing, and the passenger side one is on the way out.... So the whole set needs replacement. They have been on the car about 70,000 miles, but not really impressed wit hthat. So I am going back to standard suspension now using Sachs gear, much better suited to the cruddy roads round hull and profusion of speed ramps... Does anyone want the spare coilovers? boost monkey 0 Posted September 3, 2008 sorry to hear that buddy, but this is exactly why i don't rate coilovers for road driving, especially round Ox. they're just too bumpy. Supercharged 2 Posted September 3, 2008 Same as mine, 70k is a fair amount of miles on british roads but i'm still not impressed at all with the quality of FK considering they are not a cheap product They are rebuildable but the dampers from Koni for my Konigsports were going to be £100 each and the spring plates etc were falling apart... mbaker8v 0 Posted September 3, 2008 the original suspension I replaced wit hteh FK kit had 100k on it and was in good condition.... £560 worth of FK coilovers and it sounds like someone is hitting hte strut with a brick as you drive along..lol. Not impressed at all, OE spec sachs kit going back on istead, plus it will mean I dont have to avoid speed ramps, and I can put my car into multi storey car parks without scraping the front spoiler too..... horney 0 Posted September 3, 2008 70,000 miles? Seems pretty good to me seeing as they're put under a lot more stress than the standard items due to the greater stiffness of the springs. Standard shocks on drop 40s would never last that long as a comparison. Still a pain in th ebum though especially if you've just lost your job. Hi Steve, Mine are the Konigsports on a 2 litre 8v, which will fit anything apart from the VR6. They have been on the car for about 5 years now, and I have never adjusted them after I initially set the height and had the suspension geometry set up, but as far as I know they are not seized up.... I had new spring seat rings put on one of the front struts a few months ago as one of the rings had split and the garage seemed to fit the new ones easily enough... There does not seem to be anything wrong wit hthe rear shocks at all, no noise from there at all. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Philuk 0 Posted September 3, 2008 people expect uprated stuff to last years and years longer than standard. it wont if anything it will last same or less time. think as its been said coilovers are designed for track use mostly. chances are they will do maybe 1000 miles a year at most on track use and then be replaced, or of been stacked before hand, id say 70k miles from suspension is good! standard stuff is designed to maximise performance for the most time its there. coilovers are the same. they are lowered put thru more strain and pushed harder than you would ever push standard stuff. its like poly bushes, they are uprated bushes but that doesnt mean they will last longer. they will maximise performance for the time they are on the car! stevef182 0 Posted September 7, 2008 dont know if this makes you feel better or not mark, but swopped over my old shagged coilovers for some weitec shocks and spax springs yesterday and am very pleased with the results, actually way prefer it to the coilovers.. so hopefully you may too with your new sutup, and then it's sort of a blessing in disguise! mbaker8v 0 Posted September 8, 2008 Quick update guys..... Have had my knackered FK's replaced with a Sachs sports kit with fixed rate dampers and lowered springs. The difference is amazing!! The car is about the same height as before but soo much more supple!! It no longer feels like your going to hit your head on the ceiling any more, and no reason to plan my routes around town to avoid cack patches of road or speed bumps... Wish i had put this in instead of the coilovers!!! Handling seems to be just as good as the coilovers, and seems to have a bit more feel now the shocks are absorbing some bumps and doing what they are meant to, but thats just initial impression after 15 miles.
