insurance mystery

Recommended Posts

hello there! been a long time since ive been on here, i used to have a 1.8 16v, looking at getting back into a seat of a 'rado and have decided to buy another, but ive been looking at insurance quotes and im being quoted 200 pounds more to insure a 2 litre over a vr6? just wondering if anyone knows why this could be as i am completely baffled as to why?

hi,

When I bought mine it was only £14 extra to insure a vr6, go figure. Sounds strange that a 2.0 is more expensive. If it is going to stay standard for a while try directline. My insurance is only £280 fully comp for the vr, I will change next year when the mods start in earnest.

well my quote was 510, same for a vr6 and 1.8 16v and about 700 for a 2.0 ltr,and 894 for a g60? im 21, dont think thats such a bad price for a 2.9 v6 tbh! only thing that would be stopping me getting one of those is money though, they seem to fetch more than 1.8 16v do

They baffle me tbh

I've just got a quote to change vehicles, at the moment we've got a 1996 Audi A4 Avant 1.9tdi with 140k miles and no modifications, worth £2k and we pay £400 for the two of us (we've got 0 no claims due to having a trade policy for a few years until recently)

I rang today to get a quote for a 1999 VW T4 Transporter 1.9td 120k miles with a full camper conversion including a gas stove and fridge, electric hook ups/sockets etc, lowered 80mm with aftermarket alloys, the vans valued at £6k, it worked out at £325

The van works out as £75 cheaper than the Audi, so i'll have a refund of £50 after they take an admin fee, how did they work that out? The vans worth 3 times as much and is surly at much more risk of catching fire/being damaged? plus it's newer with slightly less mileage and is modified!

A couple of years back I was paying over a grand to insure a £2k Corrado, now I can insure a £6k campervan for £325 - it's just not rational tbh
