Supercharged 2 Posted January 14, 2004 Just want to know If the rear windows are bonder in or not and if the seal is one unit and availably seperatly, talking about the rear side windows not the tailgate one. cheers
Henny 0 Posted January 14, 2004 Side windows are bonded in... They're a sod to remove without breaking the glass... :?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 14, 2004 I bet the glass is £2344.67+VAT a side too....
Henny 0 Posted January 14, 2004 Dunno Kev, it wouldn't suprise me though! The only reason I know is from when I scrapped my written off C and decided to see if I could get the glass out... I failed!
Henny 0 Posted January 14, 2004 arse I take it you didn't like that answer?!? :-P What are you trying to do that needs 'em removing?
Supercharged 2 Posted January 14, 2004 One side of the car needs a respray following my last (and I mean last) trip to tesco's, that side of the car has already been resprayed at some point and its a terrible job, masked round seal and paint is pealing round it and also got paint on the seal so I was hoping to buy a new seal and make sure it was done properly this time! - any suggestions, Is the seal removable seperatly?? Henny 0 Posted January 14, 2004 I've just had a look on Etka6 and I can't find the seal... It looks like it comes complete with the window glass... :? Anyone else know differently?
Guest Posted January 14, 2004 I bet the glass is £2344.67+VAT a side too.... I bet your closer than you think Kev. I know in previous case when I've had to replace the rear quarter panel windows they have been the most expensive on the car, and the bloke charging me said that with a smile "well, its funny really, them being the smallest, and the most expensive", yeah, very amusing
Storm 0 Posted January 14, 2004 Funny that, I was looking at my car this morning wondering about the windows. The front, rear and side screens look as if they have trims that can be removed. Does anyone know the answer to this?
Ice White Socks 0 Posted January 15, 2004 I was looking at the Bentley manual a while ago and they come with some kind of cutter built in to the seal itself to get the window out. I'll have a look in it tonight if no one beats me to it and tell you what it says. It must be complicated mind because when my VR went in for body work, the body shop wouldn't touch the rear quarter window, they left it to a specialist to both take it out and put it back in again   Cheers
PhatVR6 0 Posted January 15, 2004 so they put the original one back in? IIRC, they are bonded in to stiffen up the shell.

20v turbo 0 Posted January 15, 2004 the trim on the front&rear windows just pulls out&and pops back in quiet easy, the rear quarter windows, the seals are have to be cut out so no good for reuseing.as for masking them up 3m piant products do some special window masking tape, its an exellent product that has a hard plastic edge to it,you tuck it down behind the rubber then pull it back&stick it to the window this then allows piant to go behind the seals &gives a much better finish. Supercharged 2 Posted January 15, 2004 Hmmm maybe thats what they'll use, I just want it done properly so the paint takes to the edges properly, I would rather they take them out tho if they go back in ok!! Phat's right in saying anything thats bonded is done so for a purpose, like the windscreen the windows are structural to the car.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 16, 2004 Phat's right in saying anything thats bonded is done so for a purpose, like the windscreen the windows are structural to the car. The Corrado shell still creaks if you drive up and down kerbs, so the 'strengthening' achieves comparitively little.
Supercharged 2 Posted January 16, 2004 You drive up and down kerbs alot do you?
PhatVR6 0 Posted January 16, 2004 Mine doesn't creak, it feels a lot stiffer than any of my mk2's too.

Although I don't drive up and down curbs 'cos I'm scared of them after writing my last C off going up a curb sideways :? (and backwards at the time!) If yours creaks with the extra strength from the windows, imagine what it'd be like without 'em!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 16, 2004 I guarantee any Corrado will creek driving on and off my drive. Yours does Supercharged as I've heard it. And by creek I mean you can hear the headlining and A pillar trims creak as the shell twists. The only car that hasn't twisted on my drive is a BMW EDIT - I meant Creak, not Dawson's Creek! PhatVR6 0 Posted January 16, 2004 one 6 point roll cage coming up!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 16, 2004 one 6 point roll cage coming up! That'll stop the shell twisting for sure! Your insurance company might frown upon it though. Don't get me wrong, the C doesn't twist like a crisp packet on uneven surfaces, just enough to make the headlining and pillar trims move slightly. It happens on a 10 yr old car unfortunately :? During normal driving, the C feels like it's forged from granite. K
dazzyvr6 0 Posted January 16, 2004 the only time i hear mine creak is when the roof is frozen
