'Pop out' rear windows?

Recommended Posts

So whats the possibility of having pop out (happich type) windows on a rado? Is there any structural reason why it can't be done? If not would/could it be a case of having the windows removed and using a mechanism from a sharan or something when refitting them? or is it not as simple as that? Obviously the sharan windows are also electric, which would be nice!

I think the rear windows in a Rado are there to give strength to the shell. That's why they are bonded in.

Really, i wouldnt have thought glass would be that much benefit towards strength?

only one way to find out... you get the hammer and ill smash the windows in. Then we can roll it over and if the roof bends then we know its essential

not actually sure why you would want them though??

might look good at a show but in terms of function i would avoid spending pennies on them

I thought there may be structural reasons as they're bonded, shame! I suppose if it was possible someone would have done it by now

To be able to open the windows in the back!?

Im not into shows etc so it's all about the function for me, Its nice to be able to let a bit of air out of the rear

but having owned a car with them in, i cant say that they made any difference at all, except for if you had front windows down at the same time

seemed kind of pointless really

Really? I've found them great in the cars i've had them in, just to get a bit more flow through the car, especially if you're in the back - What made me think about it now is that my little-un is sat in the back so it would be nice to be able to open them slightly for him :)

That's a good point. Look how thick the MK2's B pillar is compared the Corrado's. I think a pop out window on the C would compromise bodyshell rigidity imo.

Aye, you'd be surprised mate! Ever driven a Corrado with a new windscreen where the glue hasn't hardened fully? You can feel the car flexing a bit. Not as bad as an Escort Cabriolet scuttle shake-tastic kind of way, but definitely floppier than usual.....like Walsey's c0ck after a night on the tequila....

You learn something new everyday. Didnt realise glass would have such an effect.

the main problem would be drilling holes in the glass it would just shatter as its hardened , the holes are normally made then the glass is hardened
