Portent 0 Posted April 8, 2010 When I first started looking for a VR6 in Feb I was getting quotes around the £320 point for fully comp, limited mileage, second car, old git driver, safe area. I've just had some quotes for a very slightly modified Storm (different wheels, nothing else) and it's coming in around £540. That's getting a bit expensive for a second car that I will only be driving occasionally. The girl at Adrian Flux said that premiums have gone up a lot in the last month? Can anyone recommend a cheap (but decent) specialist insurer? I'm getting similar quotes from the insurers sponsoring this board too.
V-Dubstar 0 Posted April 8, 2010 Have u tried using the 'multicar' options on some insurance companies? Give Admiral a quick go, see if u get any good results. (don't use a comparison site, use their site)
Portent 0 Posted April 8, 2010 Thanks. I'm already with them for my main car and had forgotten about them. Their quote was fairly decent... £419 so I'll start seeing if anyone can beat that.
carrots 1 Posted April 8, 2010 i had a quote frome adrian flux for a 1.8 16v £420 they can shove that up there hoop
Yandards 0 Posted April 8, 2010 New financial year so they tend to put prices up slightly. If it's a nearly standard VR6 then just pump it into confused.com and see what you get, you can declare the wheels so the numbers should be correct.

If it's a nearly standard VR6 then just pump it into confused.com and see what you get, you can declare the wheels so the numbers should be correct. The problem with that is that it's a limited mileage policy that I need, and although I can't carry across my NCD, some of the specialist insurers will take the NCD from my other car into account. I'll give confused a go though. but I wouldn't expect it to give great results in this case.
Portent 0 Posted April 8, 2010 Now I've managed to get a lower quote, everyone else is trying to beat it. I'm currently being quoted £362 with only a £70 excess, track day cover included (not that I intend to use it but it's handy) and is apparently with a company that's mod friendly. It must have a Thatcham approved alarm though. I'll keep going :D
scarlet_vr6 0 Posted April 8, 2010 who is that with please Portent? I'm about to have to go through this painful process too. Sigh.

I'm not sure which company it's with (I left my notes at work) although I hadn't heard of them before. But I got it through Herts who advertise here. vagman 0 Posted April 8, 2010 Just to add..... i have heard that everybodys premium will go up by at least 15% this year as most of the banks own most insurance companys, and we all know that the banks have not been doing too well lately! I hope i am wrong come renewal time. Perhaps use this thread just for renewal quotes, so we can keep an eye on whats going on.... old premium with best quote sort of thing. 8vMatt 1 Posted April 8, 2010 My renewel was around £380ish but I changed to Brentacre for about 10 more due to being able to make mods changes to the policy as many times as I wanted with no admin fee like most do. So well worth it to me as hopefully this year a few things will be getting improved.

I hadn't planned on calling Herts as my current premium is with them. Also phoned them in Feb for my Jetta and found their whole call centre style of working such a PITA. Will be calling the other usual suspects though - Adrian Flux, Brentacre and Chris Knott
James. 9 Posted April 9, 2010 Can anyone recommend a cheap (but decent) specialist insurer? I'm getting similar quotes from the insurers sponsoring this board too. My details: 32 - Garaged - 3k miles per year - Classic policy so NCB is not required (though I have 11 years on another car) - Agreed value - Fully comp = £200 - Performance direct 0844 573 3507 (www.performancedirect.co.uk) Insurer is Red Star equity. My other car is with Adrian Flux and they couldn't get anywhere near P/D's quote. I've dealt with these many times over the last dozen or so years and have had no issues whith them what so ever. I even turned my mum on to them and she halved her insurance. Should be on commission really...
