coullstar 0 Posted August 11, 2010 I like them. I still think there in the "cool" phase where theres plenty of look at me people buying them. I bet if you get a slightly fettled TFSI version and through it at a B road it will leave a Corrado for dead. Most folk dont like tinkering with old cars and Ive often contemplated just going with something like this. I will own one, probably in a few years time. WreckedGecko 0 Posted August 11, 2010 Corrado + Exige Corrado + Scooby P1 / Spec C / RB5 /RB320 Corrado + RS2 Avant / E39 M5 Corrado + RS6 Avant... That would do me. Its not asking for much is it.
Tempest 0 Posted August 11, 2010 Most folk dont like tinkering with old cars Try tinkering with a new one instead. Impossible other than hooking up some blackbox (read: computer) with dubious code on it  Nah, get your hands oily and get some bruises and cuts from tinkering with old cars  Anyway, good post there, Chris. Karmann's role has not just been that of what seems to most as just that of a contract builder for various brands like VW, Merc, etc. It also has had a big input in the design stages of pretty much all the cars it has built, starting with design of tools needed right up to deciding on certain design aspects (look, construction and features of a car) of a car. Examples where Karmann even designed, constructed and financed the entire car are the Ghia (of course), the Mk1 Rocco ( :notworthy: ), other notable examples of part-construction include the Jag cabrio, Ford Sierra Cosworth, Escort Cosworth, Audi A4 cabrio, Chrysler Crossfire, and the Rado of course! The collection of cars in the Karmann museum that Chris has mentioned, are still up for sale, BTW. There are rumours that VW, new owners of the Osnabrück site, may want to buy the collection, but that has not been confirmed yet. So who knows what's going to happen with this collection. Which is why a group of die-hard fans are going back to Karmann in Osnabrück next week to get a possibly last view of the cars whilst they are still owned by Karmann. Still surprised that the Iroc sold 100000 units in less than 2 years, sign of the times, generation tasteless? Generation Apple iPod, -Pad, -Poo (what's fruit got to do with cars anyway ... OK, don't get me started  ). Tempest
wy906 0 Posted August 11, 2010 Corrado + Scooby P1 / Spec C / RB5 /RB320 That would do me. Its not asking for much is it. RB5 (and Integra DC2) was on my shortlist prior to getting the Corrado, but it was still fletching strong money then so I got the Corrado instead. :D

Or something... They are both real greats, were it not for the tendancy of the chavs round my way to swing off the back of spoliers I might well have bought an RB5 instead of the 'Rado (shameful as that is to admit.) I wanted a Corrado since I was a teenager, and also when I got my C (4 months ago), both DC2 and RB5 (in good conditions) were about doubled the price of C. Great as they are, they’re not ‘twice’ better than the C. Don’t think I’ll consider the DC2 for my next car now, as I’d like to move away from FWD. Anyway, my C is a keeper! :D
Supercharged 2 Posted August 13, 2010 That Karmann one was an interesting spec - knee bars, air con, leather, headlight washers etc
dukest 0 Posted August 13, 2010 Still surprised that the Iroc sold 100000 units in less than 2 years, sign of the times, generation tasteless? its fundamentally a good car, and no uglier than half the rest of new cars today. does it need to be any more complicated than that? Jim 2 Posted August 13, 2010 Agreed. Eric is pathologically against the new Scirocco because it was built by VW and not Karmann. But if you look at the car objectively it has a lot going for it. It's comfortable, well pretty well built, quick, good looking and reasonably unique compared to some of the cars you see out there. If you're the sort of person that doesn't even consider a car thats five years old as being a viable option (as a lot of people are) then the Scirocco is as good as (if not better than) anything else in its class as most of the motoring magazines will say! big ben 10 Posted August 13, 2010 who wouldnt want to own one of these? :luvlove:
Andy665 0 Posted August 13, 2010 Agreed Jim - its had so many positive reviews in terms of its dynamics that it must be a decent car. I personally do not like the styling but thats a personal thing, I know lots of people think its a great looking car. Yes it is expensive but only when compared against Corrados etc, against other new cars of similar performance, equipment etc its reasonably competitive I'd rather have VW have the Scirocco in the range than not as it makes justifying more focussed cars like the BlueSport that bit easier
Jim 2 Posted August 13, 2010 I've got a Scirocco R parked up out of the front of my house right now. Was delivered this morning by my friends in the press office :) Given it a bit of a drive now and yeah... not bad at all. Piles on speed like you wouldn't believe and drives very well. Will grab a picture shortly for the curious :)
Andy665 0 Posted August 13, 2010 The R does have a lovely bark to the exhaust - still not as nice as a meaty 6 cylinder lump but those days have gone forever
Guest Posted August 13, 2010 It thought it was :ignore: as in 'sssshh'. I guess you couldn't keep the secret any longer. It's gonna look lovely parked next to the nugget

RW1 0 Posted August 13, 2010 Yes, so did I, I thought we were sworn to secrecy ! Blooming more like common fact ! Which did you get Jim, DSG or Manual? .
Jim 2 Posted August 13, 2010 Manual, Chris. And you're right about improvements to the interior / cabin quality. Significant improvement over the one I borrowed in 2008 :) The R does have a lovely bark to the exhaust - still not as nice as a meaty 6 cylinder lump but those days have gone forever Hm.. engine note is very, very underwhelming. As you say, just a million miles away from the noise of the VR6. You do get a little bit of "boom" from it in lower revs and then as you get higher into the power the engine sounds ok but even doesn't sound as good as the old 2.0 16v with a bit of airbox modification. I guess it doesn't need to shout though and just scorches away like a stabbed rat!
big ben 10 Posted August 13, 2010 from the front and that angle they sure are sexy, its just the rear that im not so keen on... that yours then Jim, looks lovely 8)

Jim 2 Posted August 13, 2010 that yours then Jim, looks lovely 8) Yes. For three days ;) But not my actual property, no. There's just no way I'd spend £30,000 on a new car like this!

RW1 0 Posted August 13, 2010 Not worth it!! Sat in a R in Chesterfield a while back having got out my twin charger 1.4 (very similar spec less engine) and just thought £10k for a 160PS to 265PS engine change and a bit of plastic body kit :cuckoo: . Better to buy a 2.0ltr GT 210PS and remap at most. .
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 13, 2010 I still haven't made up my mind about the new Scirocco. In some angles it looks nice, but in others it looks awkward. I certainly don't see myself ever owning one. I'm starting to see a lot more Sciroccos on the roads around Essex now, and mostly driven by women I've noticed so far. I've tried to like it, but I just don't. It's nothing to do with it not being a Corrado or anything, I just don't like it as a car, regardless of who made it. The missus and I sat in and had a good nose around one at a local dealer whilst her Polo was being dropped off. She really liked the interior, especially as the seat goes high enough for her to see over the steering wheel, but I found it to be cramped and claustrophobically dark. We both agreed that the bodyshell, compared to the MK5 Golf, is just bulbous and clumsy looking. The only thing I liked about it was the pillarless doors! I just hope VW's next coupe is better than this one!
