4eyes2wheels 0 Posted August 21, 2010 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11044315 People ripping off insurers mean insurers passing on the cost to those honest citizens who actually take out insurance.
Leonard 0 Posted August 21, 2010 I wonder what the fine would be if I got stopped for having no insurance? Bet its only a slap on the wrist and £1k max :brickwall:
Leonard 0 Posted August 21, 2010 Ok looks like £5k max with a discretionary ban. However most people get a few points and a 300 pound fine!
CrazyDave 0 Posted August 21, 2010 Think they also take your car off you until you can prove you have current insurance........
mimjed 0 Posted August 21, 2010 think they are more fond of crushing them now. rules changed a couple of years ago.
SIMONG 0 Posted August 21, 2010 my girlfriend just got hers through for the golf and thats got up £110 quid. fair enough she now only has 1 years no claims but thats still 1 more than she had last year. talking to a few brokers and they were telling premuims have gone up 30% this year and due to go up again next year! what a load of old bollox! not lookin forward to my renewal next month. dukest 0 Posted August 21, 2010 It's well known that insurance is going up each year not down and yes there have been lots of posts in at least 2 or 3 threads this year about others being ripped off too!
ANDREW 30 0 Posted August 22, 2010 I renewed my policy 3 weeks ago i'm 37 with 10+ years no clams bonus driving a VR and paid £237 with my bonus protected. Adding my misses shaves off a fair chunk and i think living in the depths of Cornwall helps too!!
Jay23Sx 0 Posted August 24, 2010 The biggest increases are on TPF&T policies, so if you aren't comprehensive already then this is one instance when getting better cover could actually make your premiums cheaper.
SIMONG 0 Posted September 12, 2010 got my renewal through! seems to be about the same price as last year. rang a fee different places. Brentacre who have beaten my renewal by £76. A-plan who couldnt beat brentacre and chris knott who couldnt insure my car cause i park on a street. any one suggest anywhere else to try? Si.
Jim 2 Posted September 13, 2010 chris knott who couldnt insure my car cause i park on a street. WHAT!! What next - they won't insure you because you have an S in your name and the day of the week is Monday?! Surely the majority of the population have to park on the street.. not everyone is fortunate enough to have a drive or a garage FFS!! I've heard it all now! Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 13, 2010 What are Chris Knott even doing on this forum? As far as I can tell, they can offer us precisely squat. Good to hear Brentacre haven't pushed up the premium as that's who I'm with aswell. Who are hated more right now? Banks, or insurance companies?

herisites 0 Posted September 13, 2010 My renewal with Brentacre is £1009 (I paid ~£950 last year), I got a quote from Greenlight for ~£730! That's better than I was expecting, that's with the R32 conversion declared and other mods as far as I know, I'm gunna ring them to check and if it's correct then Brentacre will have some serious reducing to do to keep me on board!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 13, 2010 Good news Rob! Let me know who your policy is underwritten through, or ask Greenlight that when you next speak to them. It's important! There are some really schitty underwriters coming onto the market at the moment, which is how they get the premiums down - by putting your policy onto one of these shady companies. Brentacre usually price match though, so worth trying that first. They underwrite through Highway, who aren't brilliant themselves....but are better than some of the others I've read about. Jim Bowen 1 Posted September 13, 2010 yes, the company who HIC put me with last year went bust
SIMONG 0 Posted September 13, 2010 i will get in touch greenlight and try get a quote from them and see how the underwriters are. not tryed HIC yet but again its prob worth a go, you never know! brentacre quoted me £650 with a 210bhp limit which i didnt think was to bad as i park it on the street. yes, the company who HIC put me with last year went bust so what happened with your insurance? were you covered till the end of your policy? CazzaVR 0 Posted September 13, 2010 When I got the VR a couple of months ago, my wife took over the vRS insurance, while I got insured on the VR. My quote with Flux went from £380 on the heavily modified, more powerful and more valuable vRS, to £850 on the very lighly modded VR! Unbelievable! I've been with them for around 7 years now, and they just couldn't be bothered. The woman on the phone had a real 'like it or lump it' attitude. They came down to £600 after I told them Admiral offered me £350, and they tried to tell me what a fantastic deal they were giving me  Gotta say, Chris Knott came up trumps, beating the Admiral quote and doing the same for my wife on the vRS. ben_wooduk 0 Posted September 13, 2010 Have to agree. Chris Knott beat my renewal quote from HIC easily. HIC wanted to put me on a classic car policy with loads of restrictions when Chris Knott gave me everything I wanted.
Craig 0 Posted September 13, 2010 I don't know why ppl feel loyal to a particular insurance company. Im guilty of it but I work for a very well known independent company, and although I think they are very good they wouldn't really suit me as I'm a young driver with a high group INS. Car. Insurance companies want low risk middle aged ppl who rarely claim unless they're a specialist company like brentacre. It pays you to shop around and these comparison sights have really thrown it up there with ppl sorting their own ins, I know we pay approx 75 to the comparison sights for every quote they set up for us, so if a customer comes to us well requote with some Internet discount to save paying the comparison sites. I personally would try and not claim unless absolutley neccessary, as even tho you can protect your ncd, it doesnt stop the premium rising, as I hate to say but if someone crashes into you and they admit fault and ALL liability it will still affect your insurance premium, I don't agree with it but I have to comply by it, end of the day if you have incidents, and don't claim your still seen as a higher risk. But if you have an accident these days and said let's not involve the ins. Company ppl would be very dubious and think your trying to hide something like not having cover, but having worked in the game for a few years now ppl have to understand insurance companies always get their money back, or they'd go bust! And they do this by putting premiums up, simples :)

Josh Waddi 0 Posted September 15, 2010 Cant beleive my insurance renewal quote, i paid £700 last year, now they want £3k!!! utterly unbelievable. So i decided is it just the C or all are cars like this, so i got a quote on a 1998 1.0ltr Polo. Cheapest i got was £900!!! i paid £600 on my fiesta 2 years back. Something is going wrong here, and we can do nothing about it. :mad2:
