Andy665 0 Posted November 13, 2010 Highly enjoyable drive home this morning in the GTV. Surprisingly refined, helped by the sixth speed gearbox ensuring that 80mph is a touch under 3000rpm. Considering there is no traction control, no LSD and 220bhp going through the front wheels I'm amazed that there is virtually no torque steer. And the spec if generally higher than a Corrado too. not the greatest site in the world to be saying these things... :nono: although those seats would look nice in my corrado! Does it have double wishbones like the 156? Alfas do corner well :D Unfortunately idiots like Clarkson giving 147 GTAs full throttle in the turns give them a bad name, but few people realise how high tech Alfa's FWD chassis really are :D 1. Andy665 0 Posted November 15, 2010 The GTV / Spider run with a Fiat Tipo floorpan so its McPherson struts up front. Fortunately AR ditched the Tipo rear suspension for a double wishbone rear end mounted on an alloy subframe - thats the reason why boot space is so poor, they went for handling rather than practicality. It really does feel planted, even on wet, cold roads this morning there was no trace of torque steer One of the first things I'm doing is getting a Q2 lsd fitted, amazingly a specialist will supply and fit for about £500 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 15, 2010 Sounds great and the LSD should help with grip this time of year. I'm guessing the Alfa V6 feels a good deal toquier low down than a Corrado VR6? It's good to see Alfa put handling / driver pleasure first and develop the chassis accordingly, rather than taking the easy way out with 4WD like the Germans do. There's a guy with a modified 147 GTA who works in the same business park I do and it sounds divine when he gives it some beans. kerrly 0 Posted November 15, 2010 I do quite like the Alfas for the wonderful paint and interior combinations that are available. Those seats, door cards and trims look gorgrous and could belong in a car costing twice or three times as much.
