Taufin 0 Posted March 23, 2011 Help... 1996 VW Corrado 2.0 8V with ABS.....master brake cylinder seals have failed. The problem is that VW tell me that they have never seen my master brake cyliner before, so now I cannot replace it. Can anyone verify if their master brake cylinder is identical to the one in the picture below, if it is can you tell me the year and model of your car. Anyone know where I can find one ? Thanks, Brendan
Supercharged 2 Posted March 24, 2011 Welcome to the forum - That's the standard ABS master for a RHD car (the only other type on Corrado's is the Non-ABS type) I had heard it was obselete from VW (not sure if this is true though) but you could try a brake specialist to get it rebuild or an ATE dealer as they made the original part. Not quite true on the master cylinder type as the LHD specification ABS is a very different set-up. However, ETKA (VW's parts catalogue) is showing the the RHD ABS master cylinder, part number 358 611 019D, was dropped without replacment in 2010. There are a few options browsing the internet but ATE themselves have stopped making the RHD ABS part hence the lack of supply, there also seem to be no replacement items available from any other manufacturer as a direct replacement. Euro Car Parts do have a TRW one that they say is suitable for a Corrado (VR6 selected but all RHD UK cars use the same ABS system), be worth giving them a ring first though linky
fendervg 33 Posted March 24, 2011 What about Ford - do they use the same ABS setup ?
Taufin 0 Posted March 25, 2011 Thanks for the Part number, I will follow it up. The unit for sale in ECP, is similar to the one VW are offering (Part Number 537 633 019B).....the problem with that unit, which I attempted to fit was that the mounting bolts on the flange of my unit are mounted in the 2 O'Clock / 8 O'Clock and on the Current VW / ECP unit they are mounted in the 9 O'Clock / 3 O'Clock position............resulting in the unit being mounted at an angle and the resevoir leaking.....Frustration. mrginge 0 Posted May 5, 2011 I have been stuck without my VR6 for a month now. Where can you get the parts to fix the brake master cylinder or a whole new unit? Cheers
