Pearl Green VR. Gauges, gauges, gauges.

Recommended Posts

Picked this up a few weeks ago now, so thought I had better get some pics up.

As I bought it.

Since buying it I have fitted some 288mm front calipers from a mk4 1.8T with new brembo discs, fixed the broken water temp gauge, put some dials and a stereo in and fitted aero wipers.

Also refurbed the wheels myself with matt black centers and silver rim, and lamin-x'ed the rear lights.

How it looks now.

Got some infinity door speakers on the way to sort out the sounds a bit.

Long term plans are to charge it and H&R rear arb.

Got fed up with the hole in my dash, so made a blank out of wood and sprayed it matt black.

Also got a load more gauges fitted. On the look out for a cheap de-cat pipe now so I can get the wideband plugged in.

These shinny bits are also ready to go on once the wideband bung is welded into the de-cat. and its been heat wrapped.

Looking really good, matey. I love the paint - that really shines!! Its obviously been looked after which is good to see. Loving all the dials too. I've got my stereo relocated to the glovebox too, to allow some auxiliary dials to be fitted.

Ahh the Raceland route: I had those for a time. The six branch improves the noise a little. I always found it pretty hard to tell whether it made any real performance difference, but if nothing else, it looks good. I wrapped mine and it was a real pain to fit as the bottom row of studs/nuts became very inaccessible to do up. I the end, I had to unwrap the manifold down to the point where 3 into 1. That's not to say that you couldn't make it fit if it were completely wrapped, but we couldn't in the time we had available.

Best of luck with car. Its always nice to see another cherished Metallic Green Pearleffect VR being cared for.

Cheers, I am really happy with the paint considering how little I paid for it. Does have a fair few stone chips on the front end though.

Can't say I expect much in the way of power, but like you said the noise should be even better. Also decided not to charge it due to the cost, so will be caming and remapping at some point instead, so thought a 6 branch may free up a couple of extra horses when thats done.

Wrapped it earlier which took ages, and is a very itchy affair. I plan on taking it to my local VAG specialist to get it fitted though, didn't fancy trying to do it on my drive, so he can struggle with it instead, lol.

All wrapped up.

Used this as it was soooo much cheaper than the stuff from the likes of merlin, venom etc.

Heatwrap

Once fitted I will report back on any fires.:p

Well today this turned up. 25mm H&R rear ARB.

Picked up off ED38. Surprised it was still available as it had been up for a few days when I saw it, but I guess they are only concerned with making their car handle like crap in the aid of 'lows' and blingy wheels over there :camp:

Don't remember there being a kink(see far left) in my eibach arbs which I fitted to my old mk2, so hopefully it will be apparent when fitting which side it goes on.

Picked these up yesterday.

Getting them acid dipped then going to have a go at polishing them. Plan on fitting some 205/45/16 which should make the ride a bit more pliable. Will also be good to have some decent tyres, as the car has cheapo Fullways on the front and equally **** tyres on the rear. Thinking Rainsport 2 if I can get a good price or Kuhmo'

Gave up on polishing and ended up painting them. I also wanted them on this side of x-mas, and polishing by hand to get the casting marks out is a complete ball ache.

Got some custom made spigot rings made up for the 1mm difference in hub size, and also some 9mm spacers to clear the front brakes. Drilled out the wheel holes to allow the wobble bolts to do their thang and hey presto, wheels that fit.

Ride is massively better now, as should be grip after a few hundred miles. Steering is lighter and there is also less road noise.

Went for 205/45/16 Kuhmo KU39's in the end. £240 delivered from cam skills, then £25 from a local place to get them fitted.

Always considered Alfa wheels and now I know what they look like! 10 times better than when you first got it!

Cheers, wasn't too sure to begin with, but the more I see it the better it looks.

Fitted some spacers to the rear(7mm) to even out the stance. So am now running et 34.5 rear and 32.5 front

Got hold of some cheap vents of the 'bay which I modified today to hold gauges.

Going to try and find another header tank second hand, drill it, then fit a water temp sender into it held by a nut on the back with some epoxy style glue to seal it.

That other **** gauge will be replaced with a vdo oil temp that I will plumb into a sump plug sender.

I like gauges! :geek:
