BlueVR6 0 Posted March 6, 2004 My rear number plate holder is on its last legs and just about to fall off :( . The plastic clips have broken of so its just held on at the bottom. I was wondering if anyone knows how much a new one is or is there a fix for the problem? cheers all
Henny 0 Posted March 6, 2004 sikaflex will hold this part on when the plastic mounts break off... it's available from most car body places (and I think even Halfords stock it!) 8) New ones are available from VAG dealers only, second hand ones will almost certainly be broken, or will break as soon as you fit 'em... IIRC they're about £30 from VAG... 8)

Henny 0 Posted March 6, 2004 yup... According to the tube I've got in my hand at the moment it's an "Excellent adherent weathering resistant Hybrid Sealant" :? Basically, think of black silicone sealant on steroids, and you've got the basic idea! ;) 8) You won't need to use a lot of it (one blob in each top corner, and maybe one in the middle...) Tape it in place tightly until the sikaflex has set, and it'll never fall off, come loose or rattle again.... 8)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 6, 2004 Be careful when you take the plate surround off as it will crack at the bottom if you're heavy handed! It's stuck to the bottom of the tailgate with double sided tape - really EVIL double sided tape. Mine cracked and had to plastic weld it back together. Didn't have time to order a new one as I needed the car the next day. I then colour coded it, reapplied double sided tape to the bottom as per the factory and sikaflex'd the top bit. It's on there a lot stronger than it was now :-)
Banana Man 0 Posted March 7, 2004 There's a guy that sells the smooth rear numberplate surrounds with or without key lock for 60 quid give him a try if you want a new one thats on the PVW website :)
daves16v 1 Posted March 7, 2004 I used self tapping screws and washers to go over the plastic stub that's left. Took me about 5 mins to remove the trim put screws in and re-attach trim. Jobs-a-good'en. :D
