Afternoon... Newbie considering VR6

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody thought id come on and ask for some info on the Corrado VR6 :)

Ive decided its time to upgrade me motor for something alot faster so far ive considered the following

Rover 220 Turbo Coupe - keep hearing about the gearboxes braking

Prelude 2.2 VTEC - 4 wheel steering puts me off 8 CV joints what the hell!

Calibra 2.5 - a bit big for my liking

so now im considering the VR6 Corrado as it seems to be perfect apart from being a little pricy to purchase is there anything really expensive on it?

and will i be able to do DIY like i can on my escort or is it too tight in the engine bay?

thanks peeps :D

If you don't go for the VR6 then I'd get the Prelude. The other two are a bit naff in my opinion although the Vauxhall is the most reliable of all 4 cars mentioned.

The VR6 is a fab car. There is something instinctively right about it from the moment you park your bum in the seat. It gets better when you turn the key.

Definitely the VR6 or the Prelude - don't go near the other two

VR6 - if you like bags of smooth torque

VTEC - if you like revving the nuts off up to the redline!

Further to that, I've found some links to scans of a Revs review which compares the VR6 Corrado to the VTEC 'Lude and Calibra amongst others (the VR6 comes out on top :D :D :D )

Get yer magnifying glasses ready though...

You can buy stuff like that direct from Bosch much cheaper than other places.

For example, my old BMW 325i needed a new MAF, which from BMW was £450 but direct from Bosch it cost £250. The only snag is you need to get friendly with an independant as I don't think you can buy them unless you're in the trade.

Well I have just let my mate have a go in mine and he has a 1998 Toyota Celica GT (174bhp)... and he was gob smacked by the difference in performance, handling and overall build - he admitted it was a much better car than he thought... yet it only has 16bhp more he said - little did he know *;)
