markmcie 0 Posted March 15, 2004 hi all, My drivers side wiper decide to give up the ghost at the weekend while driving down the country. The wiper arm was blowing about and I had to drive with my hand out the window holding it afraid it would fly off. When I pulled over I noticed the splines on the wiper motor end had rounded off and the wiper arm was free to move up and down with out the motor. As you can imagine at any speed over 10mph the wiper would fly up the screen with the wind. So my question is, what other VAG car shares the same motor or do I have to dig deep and go too the dealers. I considered a spot weld but that could be hassle a bit further down the road. Any help is much appreciated cause I cant drive the car the way it is at the moment. Mark
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 15, 2004 Do you mean the spindle splines have rounded off smooth? Replacement is the only cure really as you won't be able to replace a screen if you weld the arm to the spindle. You can't weld alloy to steel anyway, AFAIK! I think they share a few MK2 Golf parts, but you'll need to strip the entire assembly from the car and overhaul the necessary busted bits. The Corrado wiper system is the worst I've experienced on any car, ever. What other manufacturer would produce a 145+mph Coupe with wipers that don't work and headlights less powerful than a pocket sized Maglite torch? Just aswell us Brits are around to sort the bodges, just as Major Ivan Hurst did at Wolsburg after the war...... K
markmcie 0 Posted March 15, 2004 Well luckily I have a mk2 Golf to play with aswell so Im not stuck for transport and can strip out the corrado and compare it too the Golf parts. And yes I mean the spindle splines have round off. So when I put the wipers on, the spindle spins alright but the wiper dosent move with it. :x
Phil K 0 Posted March 15, 2004 My MK1 golf lost all it's splines on the wiper motor and I just tightened the bolt as much as possible and that did the trick also meant that slight adjustment on parked wiper position was really easy... dunno if that would work on a C? my MK1 struggled to do 100 let alone 145
