R & S Engineering 10 Posted November 9, 2011 Hi all. Im currently building a Corrado track car and want to either weld up the sunroof or plate over it? Not really sure whats easiest option tbh. But thought i'd ask on here to see what others (if any) have done?
8vMatt 1 Posted November 9, 2011 There's been a small number who have cut and fitted a carbon roof. Surely the better and lighter option. Best of luck with the car mate. Think I know you on Swdubs, I'm Matt (Rado).
dragon green 5 Posted November 9, 2011 My mates done this to a customers Celica, he Tigged it in about 8 places and then used a filler rod on the rest of it ! Been sprayed since, and you can't see the join ! I could get you some pics of the inside if your interested
lilfuzzer 1 Posted November 9, 2011 I have considered this and thought of getting a scrap roof and cutting a larger section than the current sun roof from the rear of the roof so there shouldnt be any distortion when welding. Was just a thought though as some pitfalls as pros and cons need to be weighed up and never got round to doing that
Supercharged 2 Posted November 10, 2011 Just buy a non sunroof panel - this is what Ken Lark did on the VW Cup car
boost monkey 0 Posted November 10, 2011 I would have thought you'll have not much force going through the roof panel if you're using a rollcage with overhead bar(which you should be for a track car) anyways?

Indeed... if your fitting a full cage just remove the sunroof mech and fill the hole with polycarbonate... Unless you want it looking *MINT* in which case get a fibreglass or carbon fibre roof. R & S Engineering 10 Posted November 10, 2011 Yes the car has a full cage with overhead bar (cage came from a VW Cup car). So Polycarb option is a possibility. But it does look a bit messy. Anybody got any pics? ---------- Post added at 03:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:41 PM ---------- Or does anybody know of a company who can supply fibreglass or Polycarb replacements?
