EJ Taylor 22 Posted September 17, 2013 Very nice :) Hope you bring this along to another Midlands / Warwickshire meet in the future - would love to have a look around it! Jim pick up our conversation on clumpys thread... You have somewhat concerned me with your questions.... surly VF make the chips specific to the ECU, as i sent them photos on mine... will this not mean it will be for the 2.9 C as im sure the 2.8 and 2.9 have different ECU's? I have emailed VF and am now nervously awaiting a response
Jim 2 Posted September 17, 2013 Hi mate - sorry, wasn't my intention to worry you! :) Was your supercharger kit shipped from the states? I just remember in recent years that the manufacturers in the USA were utterly oblivious of anything other than the cars sold domestically - so the 2.8 Corrado SLC was all they cared about. Things may well have changed in recent years and they might have a proper map for the european 2.9 now.. but there's certainly no harm in emailing them to confirm it. Just since i bought it this kit has done nothing but give me grief, this is the last thing i need. I guess its just sit and wait to hear back from them now then. I am assuming the entire point in me removing my ECU and sending them my chassis number and every other code and number under the sun was to enable them to make the chip specifically for my car, so if they come back at me and say its just a generic USA spec chip i will release verbal hell upon them! Thanks for raisin the query though man last thing i wont is to find out after getting it hard wired into the ECU

n3p 3 Posted September 23, 2013 Fingers crossed for you that it all goes smoothly, you've also done the right thing by getting a new clutch. Mine is slipping like a biatch now, so just about to book the car in for a Helix Organic at The Phirm. I know of a used clutch for sale but they didn't want to fit it. £700 all in :(

I know of a used clutch for sale but they didn't want to fit it. £700 all in :( Yer bro, i thought if im guna charge it im guna do it proper, so we are taking the front end of and taking the engine out tucking the bay etc, so i thought while its out i may aswell do the clutch, then i thought i might aswell do the flywheel as im doing the clutch lol then i thought well might aswell do the water pump as i got new pullies with the kit, and then it just went on and on to much much more, the list has gotten silly, hence i booked the whole week of next week haha. Other than the recent clutch did the charger give you any more issues? would be nice to have a heads up!
n3p 3 Posted September 24, 2013 Heat mainly, an oil cooler is a must! I'm still slightly worried at how hot the engine bay gets, tempted to cut a big hole in the wing or something!!
EJ Taylor 22 Posted September 24, 2013 Heat mainly, an oil cooler is a must! I'm still slightly worried at how hot the engine bay gets, tempted to cut a big hole in the wing or something!! hmm. i have seen people cut out the number plate recess and put mesh in there. might be an idea. tends to look barry though.. i am going to have to think of a solution for this as mine already gets very hot. Where did you get your oil cooler from?
sexybourbon 0 Posted September 24, 2013 I was at a meet a few weeks back and was talking about how hot they get briefly , it was mentioned that they run cooler without a front splitter , iv not tried it but it was just brought up in conversation , and i suppose that big ol 90mm chin will push air out of the way of the belly of the car ! The only thing that would be a problem for me is loosing that chin as i think its an iconic bit of the car

Where did you get your oil cooler from? Stealth racing supply them (Mocal). My temps are now like a standard VR6 :). I know a few other guys here (Rotrex charged) are using a Water/Methanol injection kit too in order to keep the temps down. I spoke to Vince about it and he didn't recommend it for my Vortech V1. I know a few other guys here (Rotrex charged) are using a Water/Methanol injection kit too in order to keep the temps down. I spoke to Vince about it and he didn't recommend it for my Vortech V1. yer mines the vortech one as well, after research i made the conclusion its the better one to go for (sorry rotrex boys) is yours the stage 1 6psi or the stage 2 8.5psi?
n3p 3 Posted September 24, 2013 I'd probably have preferred to go Rotrex tbh as you can get more power and the grunt is there low down, but the Vortech does have its benefits (mainly being cost) and it still makes a savage car! I have the older V1 charger with straight cut gears, so it whines loudly and sounds like a jet engine taking off when it comes on boost :norty: . It's a Stage 2, with Schimmel 263s for good measure. Goes like a stabbed rat!
Hofmiester 10 Posted September 24, 2013 Totally agree with n3p, the rotrex would probably be the better option if money is no object. You get the power lower down the revs but much like a turbo due to the planetary drive being able to spin the impellor at up to 100k rpm, it is prone to peaks and spikes of boost. The Vortech is directly driven by engine RPM via a gearbox, so it's the same delivery all the time. The down side is that the peak RPM is in a linear built up to rpm and bost doesn't even begin to build until 3.5k to 4k So low down in the revs, day to day traffic driving you get bugger all. But get the revs up and it really goes.....I was at 6psi at 6500 rpm and it sounded like Airwolf (for those of you brought up in the 80s!)
Hofmiester 10 Posted September 24, 2013 Heat mainly, an oil cooler is a must! I'm still slightly worried at how hot the engine bay gets, tempted to cut a big hole in the wing or something!! On mine, I also moved to Millers CFS 10w-50 oil.....very expensive but aparently will keep the charger in good shape for longer and the thicker grade works well with a higher mileage VR6. So far my car hasn't used a drop of oil, runs quieter and oil temp is lower with the charger on than it was before when I was unsing synta silver 10w-40 I have an oil cooler and new Hella radiator going on over winter just to be sure though. EJ Taylor 22 Posted September 24, 2013 thanks for the help/ information chaps, really do appreciate it! I run Castrol EDGE 5W-30 and the car runs perfect. Never drops any oil or over heats, this is due to many new parts added and things replaced i do admit. Will that oil be ok with the charger? Hof are you saying since the chargers been fitted you haven't had an oil cooler and its been fine? Eventually i will do this, but for the next month or so i will be running it without (only is thats an option?)
Hofmiester 10 Posted September 24, 2013 It depends on what charger you have as the newer vortech ones dont take the oil from the engine. For the V9 the general concensus is that 5w-30 or even 10w-40 is too thin and not good for the oil seals which like a thicker oil. However if yours is a sealed charger with it's own oil then you dont need to worry. I'm running the charger, no oil cooler and my oil temp is if anything, a little lower but that might be due to the oil temp sender now being mounted on an adaptor for my oil feed. The oil temp reading may be less due to that but if so it will be marginal as its only 10mm away from its original location.
EJ Taylor 22 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) So basically, every day last week was spent on the C, removing the entire engine, breaking it down, cleaning and spraying everything, repairing and taping up lume, up grading many many things, then putting it all back in excluding the induction kit but including the supercharger and kit. Rather than me boring you to death, i just documented the majority of it on my iPhone. So yer, enjoy. Arrival at the OBD-Works unit. VERY impressed with the reinforced sump! haha Front end off Fanimold and few other bits off Needed some TLC Engine out. As with everything else in desperate need of some TLC.. the state of it! Some pre cleaned shots of the bay. Edited October 7, 2013 by EJ Taylor
EJ Taylor 22 Posted October 7, 2013 And after some elbow grease! I GOT THE GLUE OFF!!! WOOOO Crinkle black fanimold.... lots of crinkle black went on. Engine, gear box and much more got steam cleaned sanded down and re-sprayed. Crinkle black alternator. ;) The ally rocker cover i found! looked a lot worse to start with.
EJ Taylor 22 Posted October 7, 2013 Crinkle black starter motor. Little refurb job on the fan unit, sanded down and sprayed the lot. guess what finish... haha Charger test fit. Finished fan unit. Finished rocker cover, crinkle black'd it, then polished up the faces on the "sticky up bits" Some lume work and repairs, SO impressed by how clean and tidy it all was in the head, the schimmel cams and chain still looking like new. The Competition clutch billet fly wheel! And the Competiton Clutch Stage 2 Clutch to match :bonk:
