Rich_T 10 Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) I guess I ought to do a build thread for it, whether anyones interested is another matter but here we go. Got this last August, really straight but with one of those perculiar petrol engines in it. Around the same time I picked this up as a donor, just over 90,000 miles with history and MOT until March this year. Unfortunately for me, the Mrs decided to get it taxed and run it until the MOT ran out, so I finally got it back earlier this month, where upon it soon ended up stripped and cubed. I'll let the pictures do the talking. What it started with and out Dash stripped out to get at the wiring Dodgy worn through wiring in a few places, along with knackered wrapping on the loom, so that all needed sorting and re wrapping, along with numerous bodges by previous owners rectifying. Modified pedal box to take the TPS and Golf pedal switches, I could have used Ibiza ones with the original holes but to keep everything the same opted to go with the Golf ones, plus the plugs are different on the Ibiza so would need modification to the loom. Throttle position sensor installed Custom TDI engine loom Modified dash loom, to take into account the glow plug lamp OBD wiring, still to be wrapped Engine in (blurred picture), sat on a Golf 3 rear subframe and standard Corrado front X member. While it was off also fitted new bottom arms as it's so much easier to do while on the bench. I never got round to taking pictures of the tank modification but basically it just needed the restrictor removing from the neck. Also did away with the intank pump because the sender never worked and replaced it with a Golf estate sender and switched the fuel lines for Golf hatchback ones. Never took a picture of the intercooler but it's just a standard G60 one, with hindsight I ought to have gone with a front mount. Intercooler pipework Chavvy air filter, I may fit a proper airbox at some point Pretty much back together Caddy SDI splitter to replace the crappy broken original one, note the size of the TDI radiator compared to the original. 4eyes2wheels 0 Posted March 27, 2012 I always find these threads really interesting. What some people do on their drives so calmly is amazing to me!

Will keep me eye on your progress interested in loads of pics cause maybe useful one day ;) I did mean to take more pictures but I always forget until it's to late. Im quite familiar with the CE2 wiring though as Ive had numerous loom to pieces I always find these threads really interesting. What some people do on their drives so calmly is amazing to me! I'd love to do it in the garage but it's full of VWs and VW parts, as well as this we've got a Mk1 Golf GTI (that she won't let me fit a TDI in), a Mk1 Caddy converted to TDI and 2 Mk2 Caddies converted to TDIs from SDIs. 4eyes2wheels 0 Posted March 27, 2012 here's me agonising over changing my gear shifter and worrying what damage I'll do when I unleash the polisher!
Rich_T 10 Posted March 27, 2012 Ive just bought another one which will probably end up with the same conversion, so will try to take more detailed pictures next time.
coullstar 0 Posted March 28, 2012 Let me know how you get on, was going to look for something a but cheaper to run as a daily and this would be perfect!!
Rich_T 10 Posted March 28, 2012 Took it out for a 10 mile test run and got this, going on other VE TDIs Ive got, it will be a lot better on a proper run.
Tigerfish 10 Posted March 28, 2012 What is the performance like with the diesel engine, or is it purely an mpg thing? Great work either way.
Rich_T 10 Posted March 28, 2012 To be honest it's not that bad, it's not as quick as a petrol one but then again it doesnt matter to me, i grew out of that years ago. You cant do a direct comparison against a petrol as far as bhp goes due to the different engine characteristics and because of how a diesel delivers the power. However, to say they're only 90bhp as standard they dont hang about and it's quite esy to add another 30bhp by simply changing the nozzles and tweaking the IQ settings with vagCom, decatting it (which Ive done), fitting a freeflowing exhaust (which it's got) and fitting a FMIC. For me though it's about the economy, everything else we've got is diesel (except the Mk1 Golf) so have got very used to the fuel economy, my way of thinking and the reason for doing it is to get all the looks of the Corrado and diesel fuel economy. Jim 2 Posted March 28, 2012 Superb! Nice work... there's a few Corrado TDI's on here now... :)
Purple Tom 0 Posted March 28, 2012 Nice job, can't beat an economical Corrado :-)
Rich_T 10 Posted March 28, 2012 Cheers Tom, I did read your thread at some point, though I think you went for a Passat as a donor if I remember rightly.

Rich_T 10 Posted April 1, 2012 lol, that pretty much sums it up, a requirement for living down here is that you must own a tractor!
Rich_T 10 Posted April 6, 2012 Well, after running it round for a few days Im more than happy with it, still a few bits to finish, namely new discs and pads all round and a replacement sunroof panel to fit. In all honesty, I actually find it a nicer thing to drive than my other one (2.0 16v) because the torque of a TDI just seems to make it more relaxing. Seriously thinking of going 20VT with the other one though, just because Ive done way to many TDI swaps on other things and fancy a challenge.
Rich_T 10 Posted April 11, 2012 Well it just passed its MOT, so thats good for another year.
Rich_T 10 Posted May 21, 2012 Finally got round to lowering it, granted it's not 'on the floor' but looks a lot better as it was way up in the air and more importantly keeps it useable. I think they were -40 Jamex springs. Semi arty, jaunty angled pictures. ---------- Post added at 9:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 7:39 PM ---------- The only pic Ive got of all 3 together
