Scott 0 Posted July 29, 2004 2 ohms!!?! don't expect the HU to last too long without bursting into flames! lol Well its been like that for about 3/4 months now but I dont usually crank it up as it sounds so pants!!! So taking into consideration that I have lovely brand new speakers and obviously the wiring is pants!!! Whats the best way to wire them in? I am also thinking of getting an amp... perhaps to power the front four speakers? I am thinking the best way for the front speakers that are running 2 ohms at present is.... two way cross over each side of car for fronts.... 5 1/4 inch to low pass.... 3 inch to high pass? Will this work ok considering they are co axials? Or would it be better to chuck the 3 inch dash speakers... and put tweeters in there? I really need the OE tweeters that I have thrown out  Cheers Scott
pablo_vr6 0 Posted July 29, 2004 screw all that mate. 2 sets of coaxials isnt the way forward. good meaty 5.25" components is whats required. get the tweeters up where the std ones are and the midbass in the std locations. then get a decent wee 2ch amp and spank them. also do some sound deadening of the door and possibly reinforce the plastic baffle thing thats there already. job done :)
Scott 0 Posted July 29, 2004 So you suggest I junk my front speakers  I dont really want to spend too much dosh as have a head rebuild and suspension to sort out .... 8) I have been offered some cheap tweeters (JBL's) and a couple of two way Pioneer cross overs..... anyway can get them working nicely or do I really have to junk everything? Scott
pablo_vr6 0 Posted July 29, 2004 ok maybe not junk em as such. well an alternative is to get rid of the 4" on the dash. for a crossover all you need is a capacitor for a few pence. this wires inline with the tweeter and bobs yer uncle :) If you want to use the pioneer xovers (which will be fine) then some rewiring will have to be done. Scott 0 Posted July 29, 2004 Sounds like its worth a try to me!!! Failing that I will just flog the speakers and buy some components.... Can anyone recommend some decent components for me that dont cost the earth?
Henny 0 Posted July 29, 2004 JBL or Infinity are very good component sets and ain't too expensive either... 8)

Scott 0 Posted July 30, 2004 Cheers Boss  Hopefully the should be easier to fit than my Kicker Speakers were! - the Co axials are going in my Pug ...
pablo_vr6 0 Posted July 30, 2004 good call mate - dont forget some dynamat!
Scott 0 Posted July 30, 2004 Yup will get some.... Is there anyway of improving the way the 5 1/4 inch speakers mount to the door card? - those four flimsy plastic posts are a waste of time!!! Where shall I put the tweeters and cross overs?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 30, 2004 You need to make sure the door cards are held securely to the door and run some draught excluder tape round the entire edge to ensure it seals to the door fully. I used extra screws in my panels to pull them tightly to the door. The object of the game is to get no air leaks or rattles because once those woofers get moving, any air leaks and loose trim on the doors will be very apparent!! I would definitely recommend you get the Audioscape builds at some point though.
Scott 0 Posted July 30, 2004 Well have spent a little more hard earned and got: 10 inch Infinity Reference 1000W Sub in a ported bandpass box.... 4 * 100 JBL Amplifier Combined with my FOCAL components... Should make a HUGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE Difference  Will get the door builds eventually but running out of cash quickly... So where do the FOCAL tweeters go? Will make sure the door cards are nice sealed! cheers for the tips! Scott
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 30, 2004 Excellent, yep that little lot will make a big difference. Don't go too mad with the sub though or you'll swamp the front speakers out! The Focal tweeters go in the factory dash positions if you want to keep things simple, but ideally they should be as close as possible to the woofers, but it's not easy without chopping up the trims!
Scott 0 Posted July 30, 2004 Its a ten inch sub mate so shouldnt be over kill - my pioneer head unit also has the facility to adjust it so will be fine... will be running it all off the same Amp. Do the tweeters come with mounts ? - as once the old co axials are removed from dash I will have BIG holes.... :( - therefore have nothing to mount them too....
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 30, 2004 Ah, I take it you binned the original tweeters then? They were perfect as you could retain the plastic mounting plates and just bore a hole out of them to fit the Focal tweeter! Have you got any Meccano? You could make a bracket with that stuff and angle the tweeters in any direction you want.
Scott 0 Posted July 30, 2004 Yup I binned them  No I havent got any Meccano..... So I am assuming they dont come with mounts then? - I really dont want to hack any trim so they are going to have to go under the speaker covers somehow!! Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 30, 2004 Well you get brackets and screws and things but not for filling huge holes like the ones in the Corrado dash!!
